Marketplace Rating: 0 | Music Game Research Project So, somehow I've managed to weasel my way into doing a project about music games, but not really sure where to start, anyone want to give me some ideas?
Basically, have to write an essay, and then also do a presentation...but not sure how I'm going to do this. Should I focus on the History, the popularity, the playing styles?
Also I'm looking for media, images or videos of good players doing there things, from anything from anything Bemani to Taiko and others...so should I try to steal videos of bemanistyle gods doing there thing or just Japanese players...
Anyone got some ideas? | |

That could quite possibly be your biggest focus.
Well, that is if you're presenting it.

kplz let's not get shut down again. D:
Anyways - duder, exactly what is the assignment supposed to be? Just a research project? It's easier to help suggest ideas on what to do if you've got a better grasp on what's supposed to be the final product.

Something tells me that you didn't think your choice through. Quote:

I highly doubt that you can flesh out a 5 page paper, even if it's double spaced, on just playing styles. You're also going to lack hard statistics that can be referenced other than "this person on the internet told me so"; I haven't seen any charts showing how many copies of X game were sent to arcades, or that it's popular to YZ degree.
Frankly, you didn't pick a good topic. You might be able to get somewhere with a history paper, but past that you're toast. Don't forget other music games that exist (Parappa the Rapper, Vib Ribbon, Amplitude / Frequency, etc) outside the bemani realm.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | Yeah, although the information and details for this topic might be interesting to you, every paper needs to be able to say something about the topic, and then answer the question "so what?" Unless you can come up with an answer to this, you cannot write the paper. If you talk about playing styles, you have to be able to explain why this is important. Why should we read a paper about playing styles? How do playing styles affect the popularity of the game, or what impact do these these games have the lives of the players? Significance and impact of the topic are important, or else there's no point in spending 5 pages talking about it. So make sure, when you choose your thesis statement, that you are actually talking about something that matters. Nobody really wants an introduction to music games in the form of a 5-page paper. If they wanted an introduction to music games, they would pick one up and play it.

Mainly what I mean, I'm looking for good resources to gain information general history of music games, major influences being Bemani, but obviously not forgetting about things from O2 Jam to Parappa the Rapper to Rez...
I mean wikipedia does it job, but are there any other sites, or even books or other articles that may have covered such a topic. I mean, I may have access to some Japanese Book, that covers the history of IIDX, since whether the resource in Jap isn't actually a problem...
But yeah, could we view Beatmania as the beginning of the major music game genre?
edit: Yeah the topic's a fairly average one, but for me and my partner it's the only common interest we could agree on...

We're not going to do your homework for you. It's YOUR task to find what reference materials YOU will need for YOUR project. Your question at the end might start a conversation or debate, but in the end it just means you will do less work. I know of at least one or two books off the top of my head that you could use, and they aren't that hard to find. At all.
Edit: Also, if you planned on using Wikipedia, you're a moron.
