This would almost work save for the fact that uh you cut them that much you're cutting into retiree benefits/Tricare coverage, meaning you're cutting into my dad's benefits, meaning you're cutting into my benefits. And I quite like my Tricare coverage and I'm holding onto that shit for as long as I can (read: until I'm out of school and on the military's healthcare plan as active duty and not as a dependant).

Plus since I'm pretty sure Obama is just delaying sending more troops to Afghanistan because he's in a tight spot internationally now that he won the Nobel Peace Prize for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” and because his own far-left party base would crucify him if he did so. However, since the people who actually know what the fuck's up (you know, the soldiers he appointed to advise him on what to do) have been telling him "send em over bro" I think he'll eventually do so.

What I see happening is a redistribution of troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, so he kinda meets in the middle. Sure the far-right/far-left will say "NOT GOOD ENOUGH," but they always will with people who try to meet in the middle.

Some fuck high number of people primarily oppose the wars because Bush started them, and they hated Bush, not even because of the war itself. If Obama started showing some support for one of the wars, then public opinion about the war may very well turn around.

Heathcare reform, we need. National healthcare just seems like another bad idea. That's 1/7 of our GDP that the government would be taking over, and I don't trust 1/7 of anything in the hands of a bunch of people who don't agree on jack shit and tend to bankrupt everything they get their hands on.

Plus I don't enjoy paying higher taxes, I see enough come out of my paycheck each month that it hurts and national healthcare would only increase that number quite a bit, and I'm already paying for a dental plan as well.

If oil was all we're in Iraq for then why haven't we already pulled out all of the troops with the new administration?

We have oil in our own backyard. The trouble is, so much trouble goes into establishing an oil platform before payoff even occurs, and during that time, there might be significant environmental interests that impede production. Seeing as how the dollar has plummeted against every economic medium, though, and the sheiks in the Middle East basically have a monopoly on everything oil, I think we're at a point where drilling might not be a bad idea. It won't happen during this administration, though.

I don't think this is likely to happen. A lot of people put Obama in office because they thought he would pull the troops out. He didn't, and his ratings in the polls have suffered as a result. There are always going to be hawks and doves.

Honestly I think it's more the fact that he's not doing anything at all that's making his poll ratings drop. He's failed to make any progress on either side of the issue, and it's making him look like all he cares about are the issues on his agenda, for which the war doesn't appear to be one of.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. He's had more than 10 months to do something about withdrawing the troops. You think that at least one unit could have gotten home by now.

TBH, I think the only reason people even elected him was their hatred of Bush. When McCain came around he just reminded people of Bush, and then Bush threw all of his support behind him. Most people where like "Oh hell no".

Now they're stuck with him and are like "whoa, this guy's policies on the war, heathcare, and doing something about the economy kinda suck" .
