Marketplace Rating: 1 | North Korea test nuclear weapon It was still sketchy an hour ago, but now it's all but confirmed. Registered a 4.2 on the Richter scale.
Watching the live reports are fun, but the rest of this doesn't look too good. Supposedly Dubya's just woken up, and he'll mumble some words in an hour or two.

Cheers, chaps. It's been fun.

This will lead to interesting times. | That's putting it lightly. Even the Chinese Government condemned the tests which was the closest ally that North Korea had. Looks like I might be going back on active duty yet again which is gonna suck ass.

This is bad. This just gave Dubya a reason to bomb the shit out of North Korea.
| Corrected.

Marketplace Rating: 4 | they conducted a "Nuclear Weapons Test"
While not nessicarly good, its not nessicalry bad. it registered 4.2 Directly related or not, the Earthquake that happened at the same time as the Chernobyl Accident registered something around 2.3/2.4. not saying that the fallout from Chernobyl is good (Although it has had its benefits, were not fucking morons anymore, and we got to see some really rare wildlife make huge comebacks in the Zone of Alienation) it really wasnt all that bad either, the worst affected area was with in 30km of the plant its self, with decent ammounts of fallout over europe due to the giant Chernobyl Blue (yeah, thats the most politicaly incorrect color ever) glowing cloud that flew over europe and then eventually into the eastern parts of Canada.
On the other hand, North Korea is doing it in direct responce to feeling threatened by the Bush administration, George isnt stupid enough to go to war with them knowing they have some form of nuclear weapon. And there was a solution on the table: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_K...ss_destruction
Apparently they want a safer Light water nuclear reactor provided to them for power production. I can see why: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...rs#North_Korea
The oldest operating reactor in the United states is at Oyster Creek New Jersey, and produces 610 MWe, The one reactor that north Korea has to produce electricity produces 50MWe, and is an outdated reactor from the original Nuclear arms race designed by the English. Its not passively safe (It wont automaticaly shut its self down if something fucks up like modern reactors do, someone has to be there 24/7 to be ready to push the SCRAM switch)
Then theres the 8MWe research reactor they have, its designed by the Solviets around the time their famous RBMK reactor design came to be. If youre looking for a safety report on the RBMK, and what it can do, see this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster
So they have 1 potentially unsafe reactor that doesnt produce shit. 2 1000 MWe Light water reactors that arent online (Safe as houses though, Pressurized Water Reactors dont usually have enough fuel in them to cause an explosion, but the construction sites dont have any of the critical components onhand) and another 200MWe reactor I cant find information on - God knows its probably not online. And a research reactor that produces enough electricty to light the building its kept in.
Guys, This is over an Energy Crisis. North Korea is more likely trying to use whats known as "Corrective Barganing power" than it is trying to destroy the world.
And if theres anything Defcon, War Games, and the original Global Thermonuclear War have tought us, Nobody Wins. You can only lose the least. North Korea isnt dumb enough to launch one missile at a country that outnumbers their weapons in both nuclear and non nuclear about 573 to one. | |

But in all seriousness, you do have a point. Then again, knowing the fact that Bush started a war on false information, I still wouldn't put it past him that he'd try and pull something as dumb as starting a nuclear war. Makes me glad that only congress has the power to declare a state of war.

Makes me glad that only congress has the power to declare a state of war. | I love the fact that you think that anyone in the opposite political party that happens to have a Texan drawl is stupid beyond all recognition just because he didn't follow your party's policy. If this was the case, Iraq and Afghanistan would have been nuked to pieces a long time ago. Show a certain level of respect for the guy. It seems his unwanted notoriety is accelerated by the fact that New York Times always finds the perfect opportunity to snap a picture of the Prez in the middle of a press conference, when his tongue is dangling out of his mouth for a split millisecond, while with Bill Clinton, they practically asked, "Excuse me, Mr. President, will you pose for a photo?"
Open the blinders, fella.
I wish we didn't have a bipartianship. It always commands an "all-or-nothing" technicality. Rather, we - as the people - should be able to vote on individual policies rather than on red vs. blue. It's the only way we can pass FairTax.
On terms of North Korea, nearly every country in the world has condemned their actions... except for Iran, who said "North Korea is doing this in retaliation to the Americans." Oh, such bravery! Such forwardness! They're standing up to the big bad Yankees...
Puh-leeze.

Open the blinders, fella. | I also love the fact that because of mere comments alone you think that I'm a liberal jackass. I'm not. I simply disagree with nearly every position the president has and I think he's done a terrible job with the country along with the G.O.P. controlled congress. Not that I think the liberals could correct everything the G.O.P.'s put their dirty little mitts on, but I do think that at least right now, they could be doing a whole lot better. Quote: |

| If you want to pass a bill like that without any opposition, you'd want a dictatorship, not a democracy. You'll always encounter opposition with any kind of democratic system of government. That's the beauty of it.
Oh, and for the curious, I'm a libertarian. Not a liberal.

No? Well, correct me if I'm wrong, then, but if you disagree with "nearly every position", you'd better specify which ones or you'd be in trouble. Dear sir, I would like to see proof of this "terrible job" before you make sweeping statements like that. And Social Security's overhaul is not a reason. Quote: |

| I said I was anti-bipartisanship, not anti-democracy. Bipartisanship splits the world up into two different categories, whether they like it or not, and third parties stand a next-to-nil chance of being elected due to the amount of advertising and campaigning availability placed on the two partisans.
And by the way, George W. Bush IS a dictator. All the media sources say so. At the same time, he is also Stalin, Hitler, a cowboy, and a Yankee. Mods: I am SO sorry for derailing this topic. But when shots are fired, the natural action is to retaliate.
