I would've been pissed too and I'm the palest white guy I know. I didn't see the story as racist at all, they were just in a predominately black neighborhood doing the story because that happened to be the first restaurant that ran out of chicken.

We tried to get some Popeye's during that sale around my area. Line was backed to the street, even blocking a turnlane. It ran out before we even ordered, and had to settle for Bojangles'. That sale hit huge-- huger than my friend and I expected. Makes me wonder how much profit Popeye's made.

I kinda felt akward that the full majority of the customers in the huge line inside and out of the resturant were black, seeing how easily this stereotype can be construed. Mind you, it was a store in a majority black section of town, and $5 for that much food is too good for ANYONE to pass up. (On that note: anyone else get the free piece of grilled chicken KFC gave out Monday? We hit all the stores in town and got 4 pieces. Hooray for abusing the system!)

Not that it's stopping the internet from posting "HURR HURR BLACKS SURE LOVE FRIED CHICKEN" in the comment sections of the youtube link.

Anyways, they should've done that same move for their franchise operations here in the Philippines. If that were to happen, then it would've obviously served to boost sales and more importantly recognition as a fastfood chain operating here in RP (since they were a newcomer back then).

Unfortunately, they abandoned their Philippine operations around two years ago (since they didn't get enough profits and recognition in the face of strong competition from the likes of Mcdonalds, Jollibee, KFC and even Wendy's & Burger King). It's too bad but oh well life goes on.

P.S.
Quite interestingly, they still operate a franchise at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2 Skyplaza and boy the quality of the food there is really at its best (in-line with quality of the original Popeye fastfood restaurants in America )
