Default Scholarships?

You guys, I'm so poor that I have to go to a community college and then transfer to a UC instead of going to a UC for four years like everyone else.

In the meantime, I want to snatch up as much free money as I can for education. After all, I need to whore myself out while I'm still cute.

So, any suggestions for scholarships? I can do music, computers, art, and graphic design. I'd like to keep the essays to a minimum, but I should probably suck it up anyway.

Thanks in advance!

Contact the university office of financial aid, and any departments that you have specific talent in. There are always a handful of scholarships that they don't really advertise well, especially the smaller $250 'book awards' and such. Being an upperclassmen might limit you a little though, as the majority of scholarships are either for new freshman with no credits or juniors that have declared major and were accepted into their department college and already have well-established leadership roles at the university. Do a lot of digging and you can find something.

Don't worry about it, plenty of people do this option. It's what I did. Depends on where you went, and what your getting into, but my communitity college has professors who were more involved with their subjects then some of my professors at a real college. I've gotten into the Baltimore city crime lab for private tours and whatnot, just because my professor used to be a chief there. I'm involved with Criminal Justice and i've had professors who've never practiced what they teach, trying to lecture police (going back for a degree) who've been on the job for years.

Yeah, don't ever feel bad about the CC->Uni option. I honestly wish I did, it would have saved me some money I think. I got an automatic free-tuition scholarship (4 years renewable baby) due to my high school GPA and test score combination though, so the room and board I pay here is pretty comparable to what tuition would be at a community college for the kind of credits I would need. That, and I really didn't want to live at home anymore :3

But I hear ya' on the not having money thing. It fucking blows.

I started off at De Anza Community college in northern california and then transferred to University of California Los Angeles. That saved me at least 25 grand. Check the financial Aid office, you might qualify for it. In addition statistics show that your chances of getting into a University of your choice through transferring is greater than if you were to go there right after high school.

Oh also, talk to an admissions counselour at your community college.

I met with one to make sure that I was taking all the credits that I was supposed to in order to keep on track with the University of Michigan transfer guide (I'm taking seventeen this semester and I'm there from 9:30am to 9pm on both monday and wednesday D:).

This counselour was very friendly and said that I reminded her of her son, and she also mentioned that she sits on the board of distribution of the foundation scholarships, and if I have a good gpa my first semester, she'll make an effort to give me a foundation scholarship (she said he son would have wanted it or something :/), so you should go meet with the academic counseling office at your cc :3
