Marketplace Rating: 0 | well, this is great so basically i just finished my movie, another music video and such.
this one was about tokyo, the clips i took and stuff while i was there, synched up to the music and such with effects. (it's uploading to youtube, will link here when done)
now, i rendered the final version about a half hour ago. as it was just finishing, my cousin came over to cut my hair.
she needed a chair for me to sit on in the living room and crap as it had the best lighting, so i went to get one. on the way in, the chair snagged the cord of my external hard drive;
the external hard drive holding, oh i dunno, six years worth of data, most of it unrecoverable or extremely rare stuff that doesn't even *exist* on the internet in most cases (manga that was discontinued translating but will not be licensed, over 60 gigs of porn from pay sites, my writings, my movies, etc.)...
and it pulled the external hard drive right off my desk...
smashing it onto the tile floor.
this external hard drive is sealed almost completeley except for the fan; there are no screws and no way to get it open as far as i know. (it's a 250GB ACOM DATA external HD. Grey and Black coloring.)
the movie had finished rendering, so that was weird...
but what was even weirder was that for the last three months i'd been wanting to back up my data on the external hard drive to my friend's computer.
FINALLY... three days ago, we backed most of the important, irreplaceable stuff up. (the aformentioned manga, my own creations, etc....)
BUT I JUST REALIZED WE DIDN'T BACK UP THE PORN! NOOOOOOOOOOOO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVlnyj5RK7k is the video link, check it out, please?

There's not much I can say as consolation, but I will admit this: you had me wondering where this was all going until the last line. And then I started laughing my ass off.

Shame about the pr0n, though.

watch the whole thing, the first half is the "old" part, the latter half has much tighter timing and interesting clips (guy in sonic costume, me playing taiko, evangelion slot machine, etc.) Quote:

When you dropped it was it turned on or off? even if the hard drive is busted, if it didn't break the seal between the disk plates and the outside air, and the disks physically are not cracked, I know places where they can take the disks out and recover data from it. If you give me more details on what exactly happen I can decide whether data is recoverable or not. Data USUALLY is recoverable provided you didnt overwrite it with new stuff and the disk plates are not physically damaged. Depending on how high you dropped it from but generally breaking the actual disks requies a drop from a real high distance.

But 6 gigs of paysite porn rips? Fuck, I'd go through all that trouble for it.

also i don't know, the hard drive was on, it starts up, the computer recognizes it, but it just keeps on turning itself off.

If you feel the need to get that porn back (60......FUCK), should be easy for someone to recover.

You do that. | If you're paying that much, you're getting ripped off.
The Geek Squad around here will do a whole hard drive data recovery for a couple hundred. But keep in mind, not many Geek Squads have the tools to do it. We're just lucky, I guess.
But if a Geek Squad will do it for a couple hundred, $2000 is way too much and a sure sign you need to go elsewhere.

You do that. | Hey it might be worth it for the porn....
I thought he said he lost like 6 years of personal work or something? Depending on what it is, yes I might pay to recover some stuff.
