I got pretty curious and wanted to know what my name would sound like in the Japanese language!

I used this website to translate my name into Japanese Kanji!

[Note: This isn't meant to disrespect the Japanese language in any way]

Here is what I got: [Both listed are my First name first and Middle name second]

This website certainly is uh...interesting. Really all it is doing is translating your name to fit into the Japanese sounds and then connecting those sounds to a Kanji with that reading.

For example, with my name, "Derrick", it fits it into Japanese by making it "deriku". Then it looks like it automatically searches for common Kanji that have those readings. For me, it chooses 出, which is a pretty common Kanji, to represent "de".

In short, the real way to translate your name into Japanese is to write it in Katakana, which is probably pretty boring compared to this website since each katakana only represents a sound, not a meaning (very much like our alphabet).

These purported name translators just form ateji with a voiced form of a Western name. It's impossible with any of my names but these things don't really mean much anyway.

Yeah this is a really bad concept. A western name would only be written in katakana.

As long as some chick gets linked to the site, prints her name out and gets it tattooed on the small of her back, then I'd call it a win.

If you really want your name in japanese, look up the etymology of your name and translate it into japanese from there. Actually, that still might be off...

Btw, using my method, my name in Japanese would be 培 覇者 ( Tsuchika Hasha )

Although if I did it the long way with katakana,

Would rather stick with my simple one though.

I am definitely no expert on this subject though. Based on what I know though, this type of thing where you use adjectives or personal attributes as the basis of your Japanese name (if you are non-Japanese) is not that effective or suggested.

For Chinese names given to non-Chinese people, this thing can work though. For example, my name is John. However, my Chinese name is
唐威力
Mandarin: tang wei li
or
Cantonese: tong wai lik

Which gives relation to someone who has 'strength' and 'prestige' lolz

So in summary, this could work for Chinese names but for Japanese names, it's best to use something else.

That's just what I think about it
