I wish I could play this more actually, but none of the machines I find of it these days are in good condition =/ | yeah, it's impossible to find a Top Skater where the board is actually calibrated correctly these days
highest score I ever got on the Normal/Beginner course was like 840k, but I think the machine was set to difficulty 1 (start with 99 seconds, timer resets to 99 after each checkpoint... so that's a lot of half-pipe whoring). Highest score on the machine was over a million

Still can't get through the Battle of Endor without taking damage...those stupid TIES that come in fours, one from each direction, mess me up.

This was with just one credit. I think I only lost 1 life in it. I've beat that game so many times, I've lost count. It's basically just a time killer for me nowadays.

I always suck at shooters.
It took me like 3 credits just to get through the original Area 51.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | For some reason, I never played much of the original Area 51, instead played more area 51: site 4. I can get to the hard challenges on one credit. I think it was just that I like the fact you don't have to reload the gun at all, that's why I played it a lot more.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | the thing I don't like about Area 51 / Maximum Force / Target Terror is the way it ramps up the difficulty when you survive for a while on one life. The longer you last, the less time it takes for an enemy to hit you when they appear. You never actually see the bullets that hit you, so you never know how much time you have to kill an enemy before they shoot you... and I can't stand that. You HAVE to memorize the game if you want to do well at it, and you have to wipe out each enemy the instant they appear on screen, or you'll eventually lose a life. The games are basically designed purely for casual arcadegoers to survive for a couple minutes and then force them to continue.
the quality gun games (House of the Dead, Time Crisis, etc) don't do that fake difficulty ramping, they're tough but perfectly playable on one credit if you give it enough time.

I've played TC2 for a long time, and I don't remember any of the machines I've played on looking like that.
As for TC3, I never really got into it much, since the PS2 version was so much superior to the arcade one. TC4, though...man, that's going to be fun.

The enemies can pop up anywhere and hit you just when they start shooting in many cases. I'm not so sure about Maximum Force or Area 51, since I don't play that as much. I have at least the first 5 stages on Target Terror pretty much memorized. But the one thing I hate about Target Terror is the helicopters, since you have to have a smart bomb in order to not lose a life. I have got up to stage 6, near the end.
KevinITG - That's probably because you haven't seen a small TC II cabinet. I guess you only have the bigger cabinets around your area.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | I have this habit of sucking (I don't even TRY to keep track of how much cash I put into machines while playing unless I'm on a budget that day), but when I do beat something, I pull it off in some sort of "what the FUCK THAT WAS AWESOME" way. Examples? Okay, how about the following:
* HotD 3 - Finished the endboss after a solo run through the game with one hit left and no more credits on my D&B card, as he charged at me for a final blow.
* Revolution X - Somehow managed to become invincible sometime around the third stage, to the dismay of those playing with me. Made it simple to kill the endboss, though.
* The Simpsons - Ended up being the last guy with any nickels at a Wonderland years ago (which is now a spa store), and soloed Burns.
* DDR - Nothing special, but I think I'm the only guy in the area to actually faceplant the machine so hard that it moved. (I was tired and my legs gave way post Final Stage.)

If so, I should dig out DoDonPachi and rip through it for some scores. That and Raiden <3.
