Default Asia PS2 vs Japan PS2

What's the difference between the Japan PS2 and the Asia PS2? On play-asia.com the Asia one is $30 cheaper than the Japan one. But other than that and the model number (9000CW vs 9006CW) they seem identical. Both descriptions say they play NTSC-J games, and that's the only reason I would get a PS2, for Japanese IIDX/GF/DM games.

I believe the that one can play JP DVDs and the other cannot. I think that's how my Asian version PS2 works...

Also, be sure it's a 100W system, not a backwards 220W or so that some asian countries use. Those systems will either not work or fry your outlets

Strangely, one version though uses an autovolt power adapter (meaning that it runs on 100V-240V on 50 hz and 60 hz cycles). I think that was SCPH-75006CB.........

However, newer 90000 models for Asia (like the 90006) are only 220-240V. Better make sure that you check it out first before buying.

Still, if you can find a 75006 model, then that unit uses autovolt (meaning that it can work on any electrical socket/outlet anywhere in the world).

Here's some links for comparison:

Buy PlayStation2 Console Charcoal Black (100-240V) - Play-Asia.com

Hope that clears a few things up

Oh yeah! Mine had to get a special power adapter. The plug definitely wasn't the same, either.

(I don't have the thing hooked up...)

If you got the autovolt model (i.e. 75006), then that unit uses as UK electrical plug (possibly a Type G plug which is a three-prong design).

Other than that, all you need is to just purchase an adapter (can be found in any hardware and/or electrical store) then you're ready to go.
