Syndicates, also known as organized lotto pools. Well, except pools are more like a few co-workers or some friends. This is....huge. Personally, I wouldn't. Buying lotto is one thing, but then dedicating yourself to a syndicate? Gambling problem within the first 5 words of that website.
I've said this to myself, to my friends, and my family about the lottery:
"If you're going to play the Lotto, play it like you're not going to win. Buy a ticket or 2 each draw period, and if you don't win, no big deal."
This should DEFINITELY apply to you. In your case, it's a national lottery. Slim enough chance that you'll get some money out of it, slimmer to no chance that you'll hit the jackpot. If I stop by a gas station or a liquor store and I can buy a ticket, sure. Quick Picks for me. Each is $1 here, so it's hardly considered a loss. Plus the fact that most of our lotteries are state lottos (Except for some like Mega Millions or Powerball that are multi-state lottos with larger sums), it's a little easier to win, not by very much, but it's easier nevertheless.
What I'm trying to say is, don't get too consumed in it. The point of the lotto is to make money off the people who play, and make more money off the rubes that think these organized schemes give them better chances. Responsibly and in moderation. Now when the bigger jackpots come around, yeah you can indulge a little more.
