anyone playing this? it was just recently released by the same company that publishes maple story. it's completely free to play, but you can pay real money to buy neat stuff, cosmetic or convenience stuff. i started playing today and i am finding it pretty fun for an fps.
here's some info from the wikipedia article: Quote: |
Combat Arms is entirely a multiplayer game with no single-player mode, and contains 4 game modes: Elimination (Team Deathmatch), One Man Army (Deathmatch), Search & Destroy, and Capture the Flag, and as of now consists of 6 maps: Warhead (factory), Pump Jack (oil station in a desert), Snow Valley, (a missile launch site in the middle of snow-covered mountains), Gray Hammer (factory), Junk Flea (desert junkyard) and Cold Seed (snow-covered mine). Players who start a room, (known as the Room Master) are able to choose the map, game mode, set score and time limits, and controls the weapons other players can use or not use, (for example, Melee only, or No sniper rifles allowed). Players are able to obtain in-game money (GP) and experience after a match, allowing them to rank up and buy new weapons and equipment, such as armor, uniforms, and backpacks for their persistent characters. There is a rental system of equipment instead of actual purchases of the weapons and gear. The rental periods are 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days, each rental period costing more in-game money. This rental period has caused much criticism to the game as players are upset that they cannot own weapons that they buy forever and that they have to keep playing to make up for the GP they used to purchase weapons and gear. The game design was based on a game known as Heat Project, a game made in Korea. The game also uses a customizations system where players can buy silencers, larger magazines, and different types of scopes.
| i personally don't mind the whole "item rental" thing bad at all. i think i like it a lot.

Marketplace Rating: 5 | Kinda looks like WarRock, which I used to play the beta for probably two years ago or so, except from the trailer video, the guns and everything look like a much lower poly count so that it isn't as graphically-demanding? Minus the hideous major server lags, WarRock was practically BF2 with dirtbikes, which I adored.
While I do truly love the aspect of an international game such as these that it seems Koreans are dishing out, I lost all respect for them when the already ridiculous purchasing of items in the game turned into only rentals. I played GunBound for sooo long, the Korean one and then the International one, played with the legendary Cazesudo (if any of you GunBound losers know the name, he still around?) and visited GunBound-HQ all the goddamn time. Then GBHQ died, GunBound started getting greedy, and then they started doing rentals for avatars.
I played the Rakion beta as well and absolutely loved it, my first MMORPG (if you can call it that) that I truly enjoyed. Then the beta ended, and money started coming into play.
Now Softnyx has that Wolf Team shit that is probably just like BF2/WarRock/this.
I shit on the world with the Boomer.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | the game is actually not very graphics intensive compared to recent games. it's liek HL2, but maybe less. CS:S has more graphical demand than this.
see, thing is, i'm 'renting' these items with GP which you just earn by playing. i'm not sure about the stuff that costs cash money, though.
i used to play gunbound too, way back when. fun stuff.

Even if you're renting items with GP, it just doesn't fly with me after experiencing times when items could just be kept permanently (the way it still should be).

Marketplace Rating: 3 | This isn't too bad for a free FPS. My only beef when I was playing a round with my friend was that the maps are very small and you basically respawn in the same spot every time.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Well based from what I've been seeing in the trailers, it looks pretty neat. Plus, you can really tell from the graphics that it feels more lively and smoothened-out.
Granted, even if all these freeware FPS games look the same or are based on the same old concepts (with the usual free-for-all & teamplay matches as well as customizable weapons and stuff), this game have pretty much the "feel" of COD 4.
Still, I guess that my brother won't be porting over to a new freeware FPS soon. Granted that he has already graduated from Wolf Team (which is just a crappy concept) and Soldier Front (International Version) along with its local version named Special Force. Now, he's spending most of his time on War Rock (Philippine version) especially after the launch of the new Philippine-only map called "Kalye Dos" and it appears that he won't be ready to spend new effort and time for playing on another game.
And ey, we already have CS Source in our house (with free online play on servers as well as local play with bots more intelligent than those from the CS versions before Condition Zero).
P.S.
Oh, and looking at the trailer more, those signage kinda remind me of "Gunz: The Duel" except that it's overhead instead of it being on the bottom right.
Oh and the bomb planting thingy looks like kinda cool (kinda futuristic in fact)
Just pointing it out

Also I personally think the CZ bots were the best and should've been a direct port over to Source.

I'll look into it.
Though I taught that the freeware game for Quake would be in the form or Enemy Teritorry : Quake Wars Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Or so I thought it was free till I read this:
"Unlike the previous Enemy Territory game, Quake Wars is a commercial release rather than a free download."
Thought that it was gonna be a free game like Wolfenstein: ET (stupid me )

| Or yeah.
In any case, Source bots and CS CZ bots are the best I've seen so far for the CS franchise. Gone are the days of crappy CS bots like realbot (where unintelligence reigned supreme) and podbot 2.5 (which only worked if the map had a waypoint for bots).
P.S.
In another related field, how is CS 1.6 doing?
I haven't heard (or seen) anything about it (as I'm only used to CZ, Source and the old versions 1.3-1.5).
So how is it then? Also, what do I need to get 1.6 (Steam doesn't seem to state anything about it)???
EDIT:
Well after checking wiki, I guess it's only available as a download from Steam then?
But what if you have 1.5 or older versions, can you still update? And how much will it cost? (or is it free?)

Marketplace Rating: 5 | You just need a copy of a GoldSrc-based game like the original Half-Life.
I assume 1.6 is doing as well as it used to, maybe even better since there were a couple revival tournaments that were only 1.6 instead of shittastic Source.
Also I totally forgot about Quake Live and can't believe it's progressed this far already.

Physics are a little different, but the game plays great and I hope more people get into it when it goes live. I really don't know how they were able to do it in browser, but man it's great. It looks very close (if not exactly) to Quake 3 Arena.

Hope I get it.
In what ways is the physics different? D: I'm sure all the jumps are maintained but is it slower for browser-play?

Marketplace Rating: 1 | i liked q3a, but i don't think you can compare it to combat arms. i suppose it would depend on your general taste within the FPS genre whether you prefer one or the other. q3a/quake live (they are looking very much the same) is a very high paced fps with futuristic models/maps/weapons, but even still it didn't have that much variety. with combat arms you don't have powerups or anything, no rail gun or plasma rifle, but you have more realistic guns, can set mines, can rent items that change your appearance or how the game is played (these are not real money items i'm talking about, just GP that you earn from playing) and you rank up with experience.
i have been having a lot of fun with combat arms, personally. i honestly can't even compare it to something like q3a.
re: the enemy territory that is free, you might have been confusing quake 4 enemy territory ($$) with wolfenstein enemy territory (free).
this quake live thing also reminds me of a game that has been in beta for years called phosphor. it is an in browser 3d FPS that runs on shockwave. it was fun.

supposedly they were supposed to... i wonder if combat arms is the asian adaptation of counterstrike =) it would be weird if they brought this out just now, and then were to still be bringing counter strike: online out later (btw, "counter strike: online" has to be the stupidest name i've ever heard... the original game was always online.)
