Default Did I get technical issues on PS1 software on PS2 system?

I had to ask this, and yes, sorry if this is a gazillion years old...did anyone get technical issues in certain PS1 games on a PS2? I did during Disc 3 of Final Fantasy IX when Alexander buys it and the video froze once, but then faded out and continued normally. My friend also played Command & Conquer PS1 on a PS2 and found lag when it was nonexistent on a PS1 system. Another problem was Wild ARMS as the game crashed in battle occasionally, and Star Ocean 2 which froze during loading in certain areas (the final dungeon, the secret dungeon). I'm using an older model, so could that be the problem?

Could be that your ability to read PS1 games is going bad in your PS2. Did this always happen or did it just begin happening recently?

It sounds weird but it does happen. It happened to my 30001 (an oldstyle PS2) of mine that I have. Plays neither CDs nor PSX nor PS2 blue-discs (i.e. CDs) anymore. Plays PS2/DVDs just fine though. If I'm not mistaken, the laser in question has two pots that regulate how a CD format (PSX) and a DVD format (PS2) work. It's probably something much more in-depth than that, but I know that if it starts going south that you usually can adjust a few things to see if it helps it out any (there are sites on this).

I thought the PS2 Emotion Engine is simply put when playing PS1 software, an emulator or something. Also, I got the PS2 with the Gran Turismo 3 bundle in Christmas of 2001, so that might be the reason - outdated PS Driver.

when I had a fatty, it did not metal gear solid very much. I think it froze always on the first level, and I tried playing it twice, but it works fine on my slim PS2, and normal Playstation's, so hardware failure on my behalf.
