Yeah, it's out, the FFVII game no one wants to touch. :P
The combat is weird, but I'm getting used to it. I'd definetly agree that it's a game you play for story, and not for the game itself.
So far the Deep Ground SOLDIERs are tearing stuff up for no clear reason, and plenty of cameos have happened so far.
The FMVs(scarce as they are) are Advent Children quality, which might justify playing the game for that alone.
It takes place one year after AC, and two years after FFVII. Supposedly it's going to be the game that seals the FFVII mythos shut, but I guess we'll see about that.
I think it's worth playing just for the eventual revelations about Vincent's past, which has a lot of depth I wouldn't mind seeing expanded on.

Marketplace Rating: 5 | The story is awful, the controls are STILL awkward and it just feels horribly generic. Oh man, Vincent totally needs to fight this room full of spawning soldiers for a key that magically pops out at the end. So original.

I mean, who cares if it's generic? Yeah, the controls are a little iffy, but if you give up on a game just because of something that stupid, then give up. No one's going to make everything easy for you. It's a game. If you don't like it, don't play it. But don't think that you're opinion is any more important than someone else's.

Alright. I'm going to say something, after having experience with both the original version and the "upgraded" US release: do not play this. It is bad. Wait for someone to make a story guide or some shit, then read that if you've just GOT to know who Vincent blew to become the angsty 'badass' he's supposed to be.
If you don't listen to me on that, and simply must play something that feels like a castrated Devil May Cry that had all the fun bitchslapped out of it (have I mentioned this game is exceedingly BAD yet?), rent it. The less money Square-Enix gets from this pile of shit, the less likely we are to see more crap in this vein.
Seriously, guys, let me put this in a way even the most die-hard FFVII head can understand: this is like the FFX-2 of FFVII. But FFX-2 had redeeming features. This has "limit break". DO NOT TOUCH THIS GAME.
edit: Haha, post 511 spent ranting about a shitty game.

1. The die-hard Final Fantasy fanboy, who can't believe that any game made by Square could be bad. Wake up and stop drooling all over your Aeris pillow you faggots; this game sucks bad.
2. Somebody that has never played a good game before. Or a decent game before.
I played this for about 20 mins and I couldn't get over how -bad- it was. I should have waited till my 2nd trip to Gamestop to pick up N3 so that I don't have all this trade-in credit already.

Because if I'm ever going to do a pillow, it's going to be Aeris.

I have about 300-400 hours worth of PS2 games to play (No joke, I have at least 8 or 9 40+ hour RPGs to play through, and then other games on top of that). And that doesn't count a few SNES and PSX games I need to play or play again.

You know what I like the Final Fantasy series as much as the next guy but I'm not spending 50 bucks for a game I'm only playing for the story. I got better games to buy like N3 or Starfox Command. Sorry this one is for the fanboys. FFXII now that's another story.

The gameplay's flawed, but I've played MUCH worse before. If the story can make up for it, I'm content, and the gameplay's interesting enough to keep me at it. And the very first FMV showing Hojo as being not dead pretty much made my purchase worthwhile.

| If people complains about something very elemental like the gameplay or the controls, then the game must be doing something wrong.
I mean, an action game based strongly on its story, rather than the gameplay itself? That's ridiculous.
And I thought the american version of this game would receive some improvements. I tried the japanese version some time ago, and... no, seriously, NO. I'd rather kill my brain cells playing Shinobi, Otogi (which also has a nice story) or even Ninja Gaiden Black
