[DS] Luminous Arc

So this SRPG is finally close to hitting US shores (Release date Aug. 14th).

Anyone looking forward to this as much as I am?
I dabble with the Japanese version and it seems pretty nice. I think the best part is it's going to feature WiFi battles! Play with a friend or stranger. Depending on how well you do in WiFi battles, you can be awarded with rare items. Sounds cool!

This now shares the same release date as Persona 3, another Atlus game.

I think this will get overshadowed :3

Wow, I remember barely glancing over this on Kotaku a few weeks ago but this looks fantastic - I probably won't have the money for it when it comes out, but scraping together the funds is going to have to become a priority

The one thing I dislike in portable strategy and RPGs these days is the portrait-talking-to-portrait style of dialogue. I've never been one to enjoy watching 2 motionless pieces of character art talk to one another. What happened to the old ways of showing character emotion through body movement?

P3 was pushed back because of the special crap, specifically the artbook(binding issue).

Sucks, but oh well. And I was getting this, but considering the competition it has... it'll have to wait.

Interesting to see that Heroes of Mana will be shipping on the same day as Luminous Arc. I'm totally down for getting both games, but it's too bad HoM doesn't have a WiFi battle feature~ Only world ranking.

YAY! IT'S OUT!

So far I'm about 3 hours into the game and from I've seen first hand, this game is pretty sweet! Voice Acting on a DS RPG? Wow! The battle animations are fairly simple, but the game plays very well. Anyone else pick it up?

I totally agree on the voice acting thing. I was like, "Woah, my DS is talking!" when I first heard it.

My only gripe with the battles is the inability to rotate the camera. Hasn't been a major issue (I'm only an hour or so in anyways), but being able to see things that are behind other things is usually a plus.

Anyone tried Wifi yet? If I didn't have a date with Persona 3 I'd be trying it with my weak as hell party.

I'm currently in Chapter 10 and you need to be at past Chapter 13 before you can enter WiFi functions (that's what it said when i chose the Network option). Yea, since it's on a 2D plan, it's too bad you can't rotate.

My biggest problem is the stylus controls~ the squares are quite small and i easily end up clicking on the wrong enemy/ally when they're all bunched together. Other than that, i really have to say that the voice acting is exceptional with most characters (except for Saki, she's so monotone).

Saki's voice does fit her character, but I do agree that she could still try to be more interesting once in a while. I figured that stylus control would end up tricky for the packed areas, so I've been using button-only control from the start and it's worked well. The lack of field rotation kinda bugs me, though that's probably from the fact that I'd rotate the field all the time in Disgaea. The only thing that really bugs me though is how there doesn't seem to be any way to quickly skip through the story sequences.
I'm closing in on Wi-Fi access now, I stopped at Ch.13, so almost there...
