I play/run primarily 4e now.

Only time I've ever played. I really liked it though. I wouldn't be against getting into it every once in a while here.

I'd be into playing though if you wanted to do some sort of chatroom D&D.

I could point you guys in the direction of the 4e books, if you are interested. I'd like to play though. DMing 2 games a week is horribly taxing. I could run it, if only to help you get acquainted with it.

Edit: Seems like they have it at the local library too, I'll go check it out on Monday.

I think dnd4.com has links to free tools; and if you are savvy with rapidshare, there should be a crack for Fantasy Grounds; but I didn't post that.

Total Tokens: 4,843.52 Donate Tokens | Back before i transfered colleges I played DND 3.5E all the time with my friends. Some of the time people came up with really good campaign settings and lore, though usually we created characters for battling only and did random encounters with no RP. It was fun getting to test out broken as hell characters (one of my friends made a character that dual-wielded throwing daggers and could throw 16 in a single round, each one adding his dex AND int to damage).
I've tried out 4E for a bit. I like how they made character creation and battle much simpler for beginning players, but I don't like how they made every class practically identical to any other. Characters don't feel unique anymore which kills the RP for me, especially with the skill change =\

You can still RP them, you just need to be willing to break rules. 4e is a good system, it really is. I just think it's all about how you tailor it. I do miss how open 3.5 was though. My blood magus was AWESOME.. I loved porting through people and making them explode. Hell, i'd go back to 3.5, if only to play something ridiculous and off the wall (Dread Necromancer summoning Chocolate Golems....)

And how awesome your library stocks DnD books. I'll have to check my library for some of the older 3.5 books I wanted to read/convert to 4e, even if I could just snag it in PDF format.

Oh, and for those who say all 4e characters are essentially the same... the party I run a game for actually tools with the individual classes and does all that "I have a specific role in the party" stuff. ('cept I have a Ranger who absolutely refuses to play like one, and a rogue who'd rather be unlocking doors than doing anything else)
Works pretty well for them so far. Couldn't convince anyone to be a cleric, though. I don't know why, Clerics are GOD AWESOME in this game. Warlords too.
