The reason for that is probably more of a marketing thing than anything else; leave them wanting more and they will hang on for more.

It was pity, not an apology. Moron.

As for the rest of it, they would have killed it sooner if the show were open to the public, simply due to the fact that they would have to a) limit demos to a matter of two minutes or less to deal with the monstrous crowds or b) place severe limits on the total number of people--including journalists--who could attend in order to allow each person a fair, useful amount of playtime. They would have canned it a lot quicker under those circumstances.

Yeah, 'cause the Cube, PS2 and XBox all looked as good out of the gate as they did at the end of their cycles, right? Oh wait, they didn't, at all. Thanks for that!

Shoved down your throat? Don't read the damn coverage, don't go to E3. Bam. You know nothing.

People need to learn that "shoved down your throat" and similar phrases only make sense when you're not actively looking for the information...

If you're going to look at game websites, they're going to be talking about the biggest game event there is...

No thanks.
Heh, I didn't do that shit while I was there. I probably waited in line 20 minutes max; I wanted a pokemon plush to fuck around with from the Pokemon XD (rofl) exhibit. Lines are only bad if you're going to something stupid popular like the new Zelda or something.

Going to E3, for me, was amazing, partly because I avoided doing things that would make it suck with minimal payoff.

Poo, I never got to go see it. Maybe now they'll spend money paying their employees and making decent games instead of having gigantic balloons and presentations instead, though.

Its not actually over, that was just a rumor. Turns out they're just downsizing. There was a link on Digg's frontpage, last night. I'm just too lazy to go back and find it for you right now.

After the embarassment of Ken Hirai and the announcement of Halo 3 who wouldn't want to just crawl up and die afterwards.

IMO, it's no real loss. I agree E3 was a great place to learn about games we the masses could'nt touch for a while, while the press and the so called "industry people" enjoyed unploshied buggy games and hardware. As a result, rumors and specualtion get started and people get into frenzy. If there was something I would miss about E3, it would be not ever having a chance to go. Otherwise, I say good ridence to an overpriced convention.

The downsizing should do E3 well and should allow lesser known developers to be known. If anything, I think that is the whole reason why they did it and the fact that people were paying $500 for entrance fees.

It's not like we'll find out information about future plans for gaming companies at a slower pace. Just from different sources and outlets.

So EA, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft won't be pushing their programmers for May and November deadlines; just November.

Meanwhile, E3 will remain the biggest event of the year for pretty much every publisher besides the big four, meaning that for all the 'smaller' companies, they'll still be pushing their programmers to meet the same deadlines and battling each others' buzz.

The more things change...

I think I'll still try to go next year. I'm pretty sure I could get guest passes again.

Sucks that it's getting all spread out like this though...
