FF5A basically fixes what people complained about in FF4A (the battle slowdown, most of the scrolling) and also has a great translation. Great music. Pick it up.
FF6A comes out like....next week. It's FF6 with some extra Espers and an optional dungeon. Perhaps my favorite. I don't know too much about the translation aside from them fixing spell names (Pearl back to Holy) and enemy names (Doomgaze back to Deathgaze) but it's a fantastic game anyway. Pick it up.

Please note I my first FF was FF8, which was my first RPG. :3

It may be dissapointing for the fans of the original NES games, because they're way easier (changing FF1's magic system, among other things)... of course, the extra dungeons are a totally different story, and some of the new bosses there are stupid as hell.
But anyway, yes, Dawn of Souls is good
About FF6A... MORE ESPERS AND A NEW DUNGEON? They made VI even more awesome (best FF IMO) than it already is.

Like three or four new espers (let's see...Cactaur, Diabolos, Leviathan [not Bismuth], and one other one I think...), two new dungeons (Dragons' Den and Soul Shrine), a long overdue redone translation, and more. Plus they actually made the 8 Dragons sidequest worth doing now that the extra dungeon is in there.
One of the biggest things that I'm looking forward to about it is that all of the names of items, monsters, and descriptions have like twice the number of spaces available compared to the SNES version. No more vague or confusing item names or descriptions.

No more vague or confusing item names or descriptions. | Gilgamesh is the fourth one. There are also new spells. Brave from Gilgamesh (he gives +2 to strength), Flood from Leviathan (+2 to stamina) and Gravija from Diabolos (+2 to something I don't know). Jumbo Cactaur gives +2 to speed.
Also, I guess there are now ultimate unique weapons for each character and Umaro gets a new accessory.
Oh, and you can steal the Ragnarok sword from tier three of the final boss now and since the game continues after the ending, you don't have to make the choice between getting the Ragnarok Esper or the Sword since you can get infinite of the swords. Hooray for Illuminas for all!

Fine by me seeing as how portable FFVI is the greatest thing ever (though IV and V were good times). Now I hear about new espers (Cactuar wins) and a new deal for Umaro (regardless, I loved using this guy). Now the wait is even more difficult but damn, when this finally comes out, I will be set.

I just mean various corrections to bring various things in line with the rest of the FF games (Atom Edge -> Zantetsuken; Vicks -> Biggs; etc.) and the de-censoring (Pearl -> Holy, etc.) Other than those things (and the aforementioned lack of space for full monster names, items names, and descriptions), the original translation was pretty good. Getting the Ragnarok esper or the Illumina is always the hardest choice I face every time I replay the game. Getting both would be seriously great and I can see how having an Illumina would probably make your time in the Soul Shrine easier (for those who haven't heard, the Soul Shrine has you face 100 waves of enemies in succession). If only there were a way to get multiple Paladin Shields
And, off the current topic, but... I wish that they had taken out the ability for you to nurse Cid back to health. The second half of the game seemed more poignant if you play it where Celes tries to kill herself.

... or did he give you Economizers? Heck knows.
BTW, that Soul shrine would be easier if you could get 4 Economizers for your characters... and Gogo

... or did he give you Economizers? Heck knows. | I imagine Economizers; the only way to get a Paladin Shield IIRC is to de-curse the Cursed Shield which as far as I know is a one-time item.

The Paladin Shield was a one time thing.

Being able to use Ultima with just 1MP = Priceless.
