What? That's weird, I've seen a lot of top Oswald players here, and I noticed Oswald has tons of priority in his moves, his attacks can't be easily countered.

Oh, and when he can make a setup for his stupid infinite, you're done :/

He's beatable, but he's still the most annoying KOF XI character.

Eiji has no range, but he's fast and he also has nice combos and priority. I'd pick him if:

-His style was a bit more interesting.
-His sprite didn't suck.

So what exactly does the team leader thing do, what does it affect and what makes the leader special? I get DM and LDM and all that stuff, but I still have no idea what the team leader thing does.

The Leader is the only character that can execute the Super Desperation Move (or Leader DM / LDM, whatever) and, obviously, the Dream Cancel. There's no other difference. Supposedly the leader makes more damage and has a better deffense, but I've never noticed that, so that's probably bullshit.

Not all the characters work that great as leaders. Most of the time, you'd like to have a character to build bar or simply as a suporting character, and your leader must have a incredibly useful / powerful / retarded LDM.

IMO some of the best leaders in the game:

-Shen. His power-up LDM makes him a damned tank. 5 hits making +50% of damage = WTF.
-Marin. Her hammer LDM has ZERO startup time, it has invincibility on startup and makes sick damage. If you miss it you're fucked, though :/
-Adel. His God Press LDM can practically go through ANY physical attack (it can't go through projectiles as far as I remember), so that makes it an excellent reversal attack. Also, if it's blocked Adel will jump backguards, making this a very safe move.
-Jenet. As a counter, her LDM is decent... but as a Dream-Cancelled move it's pretty good.
-Oswald. I explained this before. Very easy to connect.
-Kula. Though Freeze Execution won't execute the 2nd phase (when the screen changes) if it's blocked or if it doesn't hit opponent, Kula has some setups where she can connect it safely and without missing. Not as abusable as in previous versions, but it's still a nice move.
-K'. Oh shit, you can actually connect Chain Drive after SWEEPING your opponent... and you can still hit your enemy in mid-air with 63214K... 4 times, if you got the timming right.

well, some people argue that Oswald is only god-tier when used as a Leader, and it's true that he's a lot less fearsome when you don't have his LDM to worry about. But he still has a lot of other tools at his disposal like his insane Jumping C, and anybody that can successfully connect the "Ace" juggle finisher... geezus that shit is just wrong, a normal move like that shouldn't do 30% damage without taking a stock. He did NOT need that much extra damage. Oh, and then there's the fact that his df+A is unblockable if you do it on the next character entering the screen after you KO one.

But yeah, when Oswald's the leader you have to be really careful if he has two super levels. The sheer variety of ways in which he can connect the LDM is fearsome.

The only other thing that makes a difference with Leaders is that if your Leader gets KO'ed, it causes a bigger shift in the "judgement" bar (around the timer) than it would if you lost one of your other team members. So I always try to save my Leader as the last member of the team, especially since I've been playing Shen lately and want him to have as many levels of super as possible so I can possibly connect another super after his powerup LDM...

*BUMP*

Checked the PS2 port, guys... and I tried the NGBC chars.

-Robert: HM... hard to judge him in KOF XI, but apparently he can do better than in NGBC. He's still a projectile whore, and he has very simple and damaging shit.

-Hotaru: ERH... in NGBC she could do fine due to the game's rythm, but she may have some problem in KOF XI. Her poses are still useful, though a lot of characters can counter her more easily (hops + attacks).

-EX Kyo: Boring... that's all I can say. He is a waste, they could have added any other character.

-Mai: Your classic old Mai, with a new LDM and the new animations from NGBC.

-Tung: He's still a pretty solid character, and his new capabilities to hop gives him a dangerous offensive. His Dreamcancel is useful.

-Mr. Big: Not as annoying as his NGBC incarnation, but he's still a tank. And I say this because there are other chars in the game with superior pokiing capabilities (Gato, Oswald).

-Geese: His sprite animates like shit (worst animation in the game... worse than Eiji's) but he plays good. His Reppukens are 96 style, with the SvC properties. YOU CAN SUPERCANCEL HIS COUNTERS INTO RISING STORM.

Those were the chars I tested. I know I'm missing someone :P

Yeah, not to mention how hard it is to unlock everyone. Some are easy (Hotaru), and some are hard (Geese).

But other than these things, the game is great and very fun to play at home or arcade (got two near me).

My team consists of Iori, Terry, and the last person is eather K' due to his easy moves or momoko due to her super fucking beam and some easy combos to do.

My only gripe is that the bosses are still super hard.

A group of retarded looking monsters will appear and you will take turns hitting each other. When it is all over you will get 648 Gil and a fire ring. Why the 12 foot tall monster with no hands had a fire ring that fits everyone from you to your grandma will still be mystery to man.

I dunno, man. I didn't have a lot of problems unlocking these guys, except Geese, LOL.

And I know I missed one character (I did unlock all of them in my friend's PS2, after all) :s

Oh, by the way... Iori, EX Kyo, Jenet, Shingo, Yuri, Gai, Terry and Geese got their own BGMs in KOF XI (old themes from previous SNK games). And Athena got a vocal song, but it sucks.

I sort of liked it... the first month. After noticing how uninspiring, craptastic (holy shit @ all those "new" sprites and animations made by Eolith) and overall mediocre this game was, I stopped playing it.

I love 2002 it's awesome, but XI takes it all. it's an awesome game. I have been playing the KOF series ever since 94. and let me say that KOF is probably THE best fighting game I have every played. I am still waiting on the ps2 version. but I could play the arcade aswell, my usual characters are k', iori, and it varies between kyo and eigi. overall I think the game was well put together.

GO KOF

I'm still stuck on who to use as a 3rd. Oswald and B.Jenet are mainstays, but I can't find a solid third character that I like and want to use. I've been playing around with Kula, Vanessa, 'K, and Clark, but I'm still at a loss. Anyone that would be a good compliment to the other 2? ps Oswald is ALWAYS my leader.

Kula is good hands down and she's a top teir player. Or you can go with Elisabeth since she's good as well.

I would say Gato, but he's wild

I really like k, if you mess around with him for a little bit, you could find some pretty awesome combos. kula is really good as well, she is almost like k. every character has an advantage on their own way, you just have to figure it out.
