The tech demo at least proves that you can do a lot with the Wii, yet most publishers & developers don't even try above PS2-level graphics.

You know, Wii GPUs are akin to GC GPUs, they aren't very advanced at all. The devers and the Nintendo company have admitted they didn't want the Wii to compete graphically with the PS3 and 360, and that's why they didn't give it a monster GPU with advanced texture and rendering capabilities. That's why Wii games never usually go above the PS2/Xbox/GC level. It was never made to in its basic hardware :/

While the lighting and water effects are amazing, the actual graphics themselves are nothing to boast about.

maybe the 360/PS3 have spoiled me but these graphics are terrible compared to today's standards...

Well yeah, but it doesn't change the fact that this is supposed to be showcasing the Wii's capabilities as something God sent when its mediocre at best.

AGAIN, it's not supposed to be better then mediocre. It was marketed that way. It's not that the devers are too lazy, it's just that it's all that nintendo gave them to work with :/

It IS showcasing it's abilities, the best looking game it will ever have is probably RE4 :/

Uh what? The Wii is stronger in pretty much every way than the original Xbox by a goodly amount. The Wii can produce better than RE4 and it will at some point. But yes, devs ARE lazy. Just look at Destineer or any of the bandwagon devs Nintendo's ended up with. Then look at Mario Galaxy. QUITE THE DIFFERENCE. I do have to say though, I'm pretty much always fine with not OMG quality graphics as long as the framerate is solid.

Does anyone want me to go destroy Destineer? They're apparently based in Minnesota.

Give them a chance. If the framerate is stable then there's nothing to worry about like you said.

Wii's specs are almost exactly the same as the original Xbox, the GPU and CPU are better than the Gamecube, but most developers have been lazy and basically made gamecube quality games that look waxed

Processing power and GPU and whatnot alone have nothing to do with how well a system will do on the market though. PS2 was less than half as powerful as the Xbox and it has outsold Xbox almost 6:1

The reason Wii is doing so well at the moment is because it's so much cheaper than the other systems. Really, only the die-hard gamers are blowing huge chunks of change for the big boys. Wii is touted as a family-oriented system so that's what most developers have been making: family-friendly games. Party games and whatnot. And those sell very well.

Edit: also from the PS3 and Xbox 360 games I've observed, most have a constant 60 FPS while still looking very nice and highly detailed.
