This isn't as bad as them calling Beatmania a Guitar Hero ripoff (Hello G4, Beatmania has been out in Japan since around 1998 and over 20 releases including PSX/PS2/Arcade and more, DO YOUR DAMN RESEARCH BEFORE TALKING) but its still pretty bad.

I'm gonna be honest here. I think this was intentional.

Let me explain. Have you seen how much of a hair up their asses some people got about the bmUS/GH thing? It's still occasionally being picked up and ranted about by newbies on Bemanistyle. But pissing off the FF fanboys? Well, shit on toast, that's a (metric) FUCKTON of publicity right there. And all of this because they "misspoke". You can't tell me that there's not some huge shitstorm on some FF board right now with people wanting... whoever the hell that is, I dunno, I can't recognize their crew... that person's head.

As the old adage goes, "There's no such thing as bad publicity." Especially on a dying network.

It's hard to be disappointed when you have no expectations... and really, why would you with G4? I've never heard of anyone who played games on a regular basis having anything good to say about them, so why care?

As for the typo... From a cultural standpoint... Given that FFVII is way more well known then Beatmania here, I'd say it's the bigger gaffe. On the other hand, it's just a typo...

As for Beatmania? You make it seem a hell of a lot more "important" then it is. G4 can say Beatmania is a Guitar Hero ripoff and nothing major will happen because the audience is insignificant, and I say this as a fan of Beatmania. Guitar Heros has a more widespread appeal to the mainstream because it wasn't an expensive and relatively obscure japanese ARCADE import, it requires no bootlegging, no modding your system, and unlike Beatmania USA, it came out FIRST. So that's why they said it. You are not the target demographic for G4, they have no need to cultivate you or those like you for their channel. It's not aimed at you, so they can half ass it. The worst you could do is to spend time wasting it on the channel, seriously.

It's like the old joke about why aren't airplanes made out of the same material black boxes are. The fact that they'd be unable to fly due to weight never factors into the joke, you're laughing only if you don't know better. Likewise, the channel can revolve around ignorance, and being informed simply just keeps you one step ahead of a dumb joke.

Actually, Attack of the Show was good up until this newest season, when they made it SpikeTV News Hour.

Icons was also cool up until the newest change in the network. It used to be really cool interviews and such with video game creators/directors and in-depth looks at different series. Now they just show histories of random people I don't care about at all.

Cinematech is cool too because it doesn't have hosts. It's just clips of previews for various games.

Thing is, it's become cool to just make fun of G4 for anything so people pick at retarded little typos as though it weren't possible for anyone else to do it.

Penny Arcade had a comic about the inability of magazines to provide information in a reasonable manner that made them worth reading, indeed, PURCHASING, that had any real value over the internet. While television is obviously a much more frequently updated media, it's kind of questionable whether it's that big a step over the internet, which inevitably, everything ends up on anyway.

I just can't picture a network filled with information I'd want on games, because I don't really need them in show format a lot of the time. I don't need to watch reviews for 10 games to find out 1. So G4 is already not going to be my network.

It's like those PlayOnline strategy guides Square came out with for FFIX and maybe a few others. You'd physically buy a guide, but almost all of the valuable information (and a lot of needlessly looking up stuff that wasn't) required you to enter a code online. I'm looking at a guide, playing the game, and now I have to go use my computer to use the guide. Counter-intuitive!
