Default Gamescom 09... PS3 SLIM CONFIRMED

It's official! And it'll be 300USD! And old fat model will become cheaper too!

I'm so damned lazy, so I'll give you the source.

I'd need a reference against that picture to see just how "slim" it got.

The texture looks a bit different too. Not that it matters much. As long as it performs as well as the bigger model.

After I buy my Zune HD, I'm so going to save my money for this.

I'm eyeing a PS3 for this Christmas (hopefully though). If ever I venture into this, I'm still thinking if I should get the slim version by Xmas time or if the fat version would be alright (since that too is getting a price drop). I'm not sure though if they will end production of the fat one and thus let stocks of it run out starting this year. I guess we'll know more in the press conference.

Either way, damn, it's one step closer (for me) to get my own PS3. Damn, I wanna play Ridge Racer 7 for myself (along with MGS4 and upcoming Gran Turismo).

Hot damn indeed

No ethernet port? Well, that destroys ANY hope for ad-hoc party in the US.

Uh, it has an ethernet port. At least that looks like one in the pics. It just says it doesn't come bundled with an ethernet cable.

You people should wait and see if PS3 Slim has the same issue PS2 Slim had: smaller but also a lack of a efficient cooling system.

If it doesn't... then it'll be worth getting.

I can't say I like the "smaller" PS models. I've heard and seen a lot of horror stories related to PSOne and PS2 Slim consoles that have a very short lifespan.

Really? My friend had a small PSOne & he's had that for YEARS (until they replaced it w/ PS2) & I've had my PS2 Slim for maybe 4, possibly 5 years & I modded it w/ the FlipTop/Swap Magic about 3 years ago & it still works fine.

I have a release day PS3 20gb from Japan and I'm never giving it up. I want the Other OS Feature, and I like PS2 backward compatibility for my imports.

I'm kinda glad that Sony is cutting the bundled Ethernet cable. Its something 95% of people don't use (Unless their cable provider is reasonably intelligent. Most cable boxes have an ethernet port on the back that provides internet connectivity, but most cable operators fail to enable it.) I wish they would replace the ethernet cable with a free HDMI cable >_>

No Linux support. Nice. Wonder why that was taken out...

By the by, for those that might have mentioned adhoc party, there's already a filing for it to be released in North America.

Yeah I didn't have a reason to buy a PS3 until this announcement, but I'm still in no hurry.

First-gen console releases are historically pretty unreliable, probably going to wait for a few revisions until I consider picking one up.

I wonder if they will resurrect Backwards Compatability because that's my main concern with the newer PS3 fatties...

I was going to get a second one just for me, but I have the PS2 with parents...so I kinda hope this one has B/W
