It won't. Sadly.

No backwards compatability. supposedly working on a downloadable patch though. hah

also, since no more OS options, you can't play starcraft on your ps3 anymore.

Watch PS3 run Starcraft (with help from Linux & Windows)

First I thought it would be a nice idea to install Linux on PS3.

But with 256MB of RAM... ugh, no.

Looks like the same finish as the MGS limited edition.
runs cooler and consumes less power.

Interestingly, we were discussing hardware specs in the Beyond3D.com forum and we can say that:
-Cell is now running at 45 nm process node
-RSX is running at 65 nm process node
-There is a possibility of a release of a 250 GB version of the slim either later this year or sometime next year
-Such a release would coincide with the shift of the RXS graphics unit to a 45 nm process node

Yup, it's definitely lighter, less power-consuming and smaller in dimensions compared to the original. Only downside from me is the loss of touch-sensitive buttons as these are replaced with the actual buttons (like in the PS2). Cost-cutting.

Other than that, everything else seems neat

Anyhow, it definitely looks like the process node change has allowed for a decrease in the size of the cooling fan and heatsink. Reports from Watch Impress also note a decrease in vibration, fan noise and temperature as an obvious result and thus reduced energy consumption to boot.

Seems good so far

It's amazing how fast this went from being a rumor to an actual release.

Ah poo. I just had to get mine 3 months prior to this announcement and then the release of the slim. Either way, I could've gotten my ps3 for $100 less if I had waited a few months. My friend got his a few days ago since Amazon shipped them out early. He told me the startup logo is no longer Sony Computer Entertainment, but now just says PS3. Hopefully like others have said the slimmer version won't have a short lifespan.
