Default Gradius Collection (PSP)

About a month ago, I hated my PSP. I wanted to sell that shit and never touch another PSP again.

Then Gradius Collection came out and I changed my mind. I'm positive, this is the best PSP release ever.

They also did a pretty good job with the extras. The sound test alone is worth the price of admission. Dead End Cell, Burning Heat, Challenger 1985, and In The Wind are still classic. I kind of wished they could have put some of the remixes that were featured on some older soundtrack CDs, but I'll take what I can get.

Also, if they could have only fit Gradius V (or wanted to) on the UMD this would have been perfect. Oh well...

For those of you who play Gradius, anybody else finding this collection just as fun? I've worked my way through Gradius I and II again, but III and IV are still giving me problems near the end.

If you really like the music that much, talk to me on aim sometime.

No, Gradius V is still too new, however, heres to hoping.

Its a little easier in wide screen mode, as it gives you a wider field of play.

Gradius III and IV are hard as crap, IMO. I could never get more than a few stages in (but then again, I didn't play THAT much)...

And why would they have packages V in with the first four when that game was only released, what, a year ago?

The game really are great, but is it worth the price to play it on the go?

I just don't want to pick it up and play it for 2-3 days and stop ^_^''

What are the extras exactly?

Let me put it this way. If you like Gradius or any classic shoot'em up, it's definitely worth a purchase. The fact that you can save between levels (and keep your powerups) helps make it a game you can pick up and play a level, and then take a break.

Plus, it's only 30 bucks. Also, as with all Gradius games, it's probably better to pick it up now while you can. It was near impossible for me to find Gradius III and IV for the PS2 years after the release.

I guess the only arguement I'd have against it is if you get frustrated easily, don't expect the games (particularly III and IV) to pity you too much.

Extras -
AUDIO
Gradius I - IV Arcade Soundtracks
Gradius Gaiden Soundtrack
Gradius I and II X68000 Soundtracks (a japanese home computer, same songs, different arrangements and synth)

MOVIES
Gradius Deluxe Pack intro (Gradius I and II) By the way, Gradiusic Cyber's video uses footage from this clip.

Gradius III and IV (PS2 collection) introduction scenes (part I and II)

Yeah, the Gradius V thing, I know they couldn't put that in with the pack. It's too new. Still, it would have made it a truly complete Gradius collection (okay, saving all the other ports the games have seen). Salamander and Parodius packs would be nice too, even if they're more niche than the Gradius collection. =)

Gradius 3 is easier than 1 imo...

Gradius V is hard as ****. I just love how it sometimes forces me into spots and then not be able to get out, forcing me to die! I still love it though...

Gradius V is the easiest Gradius to date, in my opinion.

Duly noted. V wasn't horrifically hard, but S2 takes the freaking cake.

R-Type Final was easy as well.... but that's a different series, lol.

Oh whatEVER.

Come back after you actually try playing through the game on R-Typer with a ship that isn't one of the final ships.

ESPECIALLY Stage F-C. Have fun with that one.

So I was playing the Gradius Collection on my PSP.

With the smaller screen, it felt like I couldn't be a precise as I used to. Dodging stuff is a bit tougher for me.

Or is it just me?

Im pretty sure there was never a home version. You need to find a Konami GX and the roms if you want to legaly play it.

That should be a hint as to how most of us play it. Considering you know, the Konami GX is probably the best emulated Konami arcade board of all time.

It's all about managing your shots and the like. And using a smaller ship does not hurt (I'd never attempt R-Typer with, say, the Concertmaster, simply because the ship is way too big - I'll use Platonic Love over that any day of the week)

...heck, isn't every shooter about managing whatever resources you have and dodging?
