Retail - You buy a simple solid copy from the shelves. No need to wait to get it installed.
Direct Download - No need to fill up your closet full of games. Just download it right off the internet and you're good to go. (Peer-to-Peer only permitted, provided that the game site legally has one)
Other - You got a better way? Tell us. I buy my games directly from the store, my game installation times off of a DVD drive are much faster than having to download it. It takes 3 minutes to install Half-Life 2 from the CDs, but takes 3 hours to download it directly off Steam.

My time isn't so valuable that I can't stand waiting a couple hours for something to install via the internet, and besides that it's kind of nice not having to worry about the discs
edit: voted all three to fuck up poll results

I like hard copies more, but sometimes the case with Steam is that their online brochure is cheaper than on the shelves.

Although they won't help you if you go "LOOK IF THE EMAIL HAS CHANGED RECENTLY, I EVEN OWN THE LOGIN NAME EMAIL (if it's an old account)," if you've purchased any games on the account, you can almost guarantee you'll get it back.

Being able to redownload a game whereever I am with my Steam account to play is pretty neat. And not having to worry about scratched disks is a definite plus.
