Post How do you get YOUR PC game on a computer when buying it?

When you buy a PC game, how do you get yours on a computer?

Retail - You buy a simple solid copy from the shelves. No need to wait to get it installed.

Direct Download - No need to fill up your closet full of games. Just download it right off the internet and you're good to go. (Peer-to-Peer only permitted, provided that the game site legally has one)

Other - You got a better way? Tell us.

I buy my games directly from the store, my game installation times off of a DVD drive are much faster than having to download it. It takes 3 minutes to install Half-Life 2 from the CDs, but takes 3 hours to download it directly off Steam.

Barring extraneous shit like the existence of a collector's edition or something I buy it from whatever source is cheapest

My time isn't so valuable that I can't stand waiting a couple hours for something to install via the internet, and besides that it's kind of nice not having to worry about the discs

edit: voted all three to fuck up poll results

If you download a game from say ebgames or steam, is there anyway you could move it to another computer? It would suck if you spent x money and your hard drive would crash...

I know with Steam your game is tied to your account, so you can always redownload if you need to reinstall.

DID SOMEONE SAY PIRATES

I like hard copies more, but sometimes the case with Steam is that their online brochure is cheaper than on the shelves.

Then again if your account gets hacked (with no hope for getting it back) then you lose all those games, since there is no physical copies.

Only thing Steam is good about is account recovery through purchase histories. Although they won't help you if you go "LOOK IF THE EMAIL HAS CHANGED RECENTLY, I EVEN OWN THE LOGIN NAME EMAIL (if it's an old account)," if you've purchased any games on the account, you can almost guarantee you'll get it back.

Up until Steam's store came out, Pretty much every game I bought was a hard copy. I don't really mind having an electronic copy, though. Being able to redownload a game whereever I am with my Steam account to play is pretty neat. And not having to worry about scratched disks is a definite plus.

Exactly. I buy more or so for the case.
