I'm makin' a 2-D fightn' game... Hey there! I'm about to dive into the process of making a fighting game from almost absolute scratch but I need just a little help.
I know that I wanna use the M.U.G.E.N. engine (although I have NO proir experience using it at all.) because it seems good enough for the job. From what I hear it also does 2-D fighters the best.
That's about all I know at this point though... One of the main reasons I'm doing this is because I'm in an animation class and everyone in the class wants to make a shooter but they haven't a rats ass how to even begin creating a game... I on the other hand listen to the teacher (I'm even pretty good friends with him outside of school... good dude.) and I'm the only one who knows how a physics engine works for instance... Everyone else just kind of assumes games fall out of the damn sky. It's truly annoying to go to a class where you have a bunch of Unreal junkies (I love Unreal too but I'm not trying to base my game off the entire thing.) trying to combine everyone's ideas into one game which wouldn't work anyway considering nobody really seems to be in the mood to learn 3DStudio, Wings 3D, or even the Unreal Tounry engine. We've got all three installed on the computers at school.
So... I've pretty much said fuck it with all these little kids trying to make this game and I'm gonna go into game creation and animation myself. With minor help from some regional fighting game champ friends I have and some others.
I would make a 3D fighter but I think it might be better to start out with 2D so I can get the hang of ballencing chars and such. Besides, I'm nowhere where I need to be in 3DStudio or anything in order to make much of anything. I've played around with Poser, 3Ds, Wings, Maya, the Unreal engine, and some others but I kinda lack the time and computer power to really get good at any one in piticular. Poser is one that I really want to get to know though... but that won't help me make a 2D game.
Oh and for music... well I was thinking about using music from different people seeing as I can't work Fruty Loops for the life of me and then just giving a disclamer like SM does. That added to the fact that I have no plans of selling whatever I make keeps me in the safe right?
Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone had any advice or anything they could give me to help out with the creation of my game... I have some basic concepts down for some chars but nothing set in stone (not that any of that matters to any of you.) but I think that says a little about where I am in the process of this game.
I'm not asking for help in the actual creation of the game. That I want to do myself. What I am asking is if anyone knows anything about how to make a fighting game from scratch.
Thanks for your time.
