Magic: The Gathering

Anyone else here play? I just started playing again after taking a year long break, and it's really fun. There's something special about ramming 8 flying ninjas into your opponents face, drawing 4 cards, returning a creature to their hand, killing two more, and bringing the two you killed back under your control, all the while dealing about 15 damage.

I also have a wierd reanimator/burn deck on Apprentice that I still need to work out.

Does anyone else here have Apprentice? I'm looking for some people who will play Magic every now and then.

Oh, my GOD!! your a dork!!! XD (JK, but i really dont get that game) the only card game i play is yu-gi-oh, and enven that's not too often, cus i keep loosing my deck. that game just confuses the hell outta me.. i cant even understand half the card, and i triedbutying them once, and they were insanely expensive, so i dont get them, cus im constantly broke.. lol

Yeah, MTG isn't for everyone. I don't really play that much, but I thought that if I could find someone else here who played then I would.

I guess the mistake I made for my thread was calling them "ccgs". I knew some of you people played them.

Illegal drugs are less expensive than most TCG's. Don't buy into the ignorant masses attempt to steal money off of the younger generation and some of the obsessive older generation, again..........

the last pack of any card i bought were the original pokemon cards, and that was like, when i was in 3rd/4th grade, and im a juniou in HS now.. so, quick math, and it was a long time ago i tried to but the magic cards last year.. they were like, 6 bucks for a pack, the card store near me is insane

i used to play magic...it is fun...the reason why i stopped is becuase everyone keppted on stealing my cards

I'd say you should remember that there's plenty of us who were at the right age of just getting our first independent income and such right when Magic started booming, so I think it's reasonable to expect that there's a few people here who do have some forgotten shoebox of cards that they got long ago if they still don't play today.

CCGs only get as expensive as you allow them to become, and if the game is actually worth playing there's ways to win without spending it all on the super-rare-whatever cards.

Wait, you play Yu-Gi-Oh but don't get Magic when Yu-Gi-Oh copied its rules so heavily? Crazy.

Jesus, man, I've seen friggin' GAMESTOP sell boosters for less than that. What set were you buying packs from? If you tell me it's one of the newest, you got ripped off.

And despite having many friends who play, and keeping up with the games to a degree, I don't play any CCGs ever since I quit Magic right around the Onslaught block's conclusion. When the newest Core set wiped out Counterspell, I realized that I was one of those damn players who had begun to complain about "the good old days" and bowed out quietly. All I have left of my collection is a bigass pile of lands (in case I ever DO play again.)

Not that I didn't buy a pack or two of Unhinged for laughs (and the awesome lands... and hoping I'd get an Old Fogey card, which, let's be honest, sums up my playstyle perfectly. I made a friggin' Banding deck at one point.)

Maybe it's the whole "Full Power 9 costs more than a 50" HDTV" part that he doesn't get.

Maybe you don't need the Power 9 to have a good time with the game.

I used to play, but I stopped recently. The format I played was limited and we would do ravnica drafts like everyweek.

oh shiz thats exactly what i did

My angle was only that those cards are quite expensive, nothing about their "necessity" or how "fun" the game is with/out them.

By the way...

Apprentice is a MTG sim that lets you test decks using whatever cards you want. It's pretty easy to find over google, and completely free. If anyone gets it, post here and maybe we could try play?

Also... Magic is actually pretty cheap for a TCG. I have a very decent deck that cost altogether about 18$ Canadian. It's so fun to beat expensive (i.e. 250$) decks with it, whenever that can happen. Most rares that are legal in standard (T2) play are also cheap, with most going for about 3-5 dollars (also canadian) and the more expensive ones (which as we said before aren't necessary) are around ten dollars.

Compare that to Yu-Gi-Oh, where cards can be 20 and 30 bucks a pop...
