Most T1 tourneys let you proxy the P9 anyways. And outside of T1, they're trophies. It's not like you'd mess around with a power nine deck. (If you want to pick on people, just rip out Raffinity... it's cheaper. Hell, outside of Dual lands most power decks these days aren't expensive. Look at Husk.....)

And who else thinks that Coldsnap is the best set out there right now?

My reasoning: Commandeer. Zur the Enchanter. Effin Snow-Covered Lands.

I'd draft CS every day of the damn week.

I kinda like the Ravnica block, main cause it kinda helped with a few deck ideas like my B/W Knights of the Round deck (4 Black Knights, 4 White Knights, 4 Silver Knights). All it needs is a Legendary Creature that can power up knights, but I don't know of one yet.

I'm also working on a R/U Wizards deck, since Zuren Spellcaster got reprinted for one of the Coldsnap Theme Decks. This one involves 4 "Tims", 3 Rootwater Hunters, 3 Zuren Spellcasters, 3 Fireslingers, and if I can get them, 4 of those Red Wizards from Fifth Dawn with Haste and Tim's ability and also that R/U Legendary Creature - Dragon Wizard from Guildpact.

And yeah, Coldsnap seems cool. Especially the Theme Decks, since they contain Ice Age, and Alliance reprints (Dark Ritual, Swords to Plowshear, Disenchant). Too bad their not T2 legal.

And I'm surprised Sakashima the Impostor is at crap rare price ($1). Hell, Clone is a dollar more than her. I mean, this is a very fun Legendary Creature to play with, like you can use her to copy Grand Arbiter Augustin IV and make your opponents pay 2 colorless more for spells.

I wonder what are some good rare cards at crap rare prices?

Do you remember the name of the deck that had swords? I might have to go to meijer and purchase one.

If you're talking about Swords to Plowshares, the deck "Kjeldoran Cunning" has it, along with 2 W/U "Come into play Tap" Snow Lands, Disenchant. And I think this is the best theme deck for this expansion.

And I wish Prodigal Sorcerer gets a reprint. It needs to be a Human Wizard, just like the Spellcaster.

Also interesting about the Coldsnap theme decks is that theme decks that don't have Basic Snow Land have the reprinted Ice Age basic land.

They reprinted Dark Ritual!? That is the kind of thing that shouldn't happen ever, regardless of legality. Disenchant is a tad more fair, but you don't seem to need too much Artifact kill in T2. Few Artifacts are good enough for tournament play. I'd run Demystify over Disenchant for now and side more versatile kill.

Swords basically equals Condemn but better. The thing is: Condemn is legal and just as much of a pain in the ass.

Sakashima is a good card that's like Uyo, Silent Prophet. It was a bit overprinted and is better in casual play than in tourney play. Yes, it is tourney worthy, but it's a waste of space compared to other things you can play. And Augustin is a big target once it hits play - and let's face it, you have to throw a lot into defending him pending a Shielding Plax or the like.

...and just for random future speculation: do you think that they are going to go re-print crazy with Time Spiral as well? Supposedly, a crapload of legends are getting new cards in that set, or at least that's what I was hearing.

Also: Who here thinks Paladin en-Vec is too awesome for words? It got my vote for the most underrated card in 9th. Nobody uses it despite the fact that it is stupid good and has protection from essentially all kill spells in the block...

I don't think they'll ever be able to bring back Timmy after all the horrible combos he was thrown into. But then again, they reprinted Intruder Alarm in 8th...

And they reprinted the Ice Age lands too?? I gotta get my hands on this shiz... I started playing around the time Ice Age was released, so it's got a whole load of value in my book.

Man, I lost more or less all of my collection somewhere (I think someone threw it out).

I more or less quit a bit after 6th Edition. I tried getting back in during Mirrodin, but that block was so awful in my eyes that I just quit again. I just found some of the cards yesterday when I was cleaning out the house...ugh.

My friend is going back into tourneys again. I don't think I'll go back to collecting or buying, but I guess I'll watch.

Well, Zuren Spellcaster was one of those Ice Age reprints on the theme decks, and IT IS basically "Tim": same casting cost, same color, same ability, different name.

Yeah, the pre Urza Saga stand alone expansions used to have like 2 or 3 versions of "Timmy" and Samite Healers.

"Kjeldoran Cunning" and "Beyond The Grave" should have all the reprinted Ice Age basic lands, and also those very good reprints I've mentioned before.

Edit: Didn't know Urza has a "Tim" too.

Truth,

So, I can assume no one has/uses/cares about Apprentice? To recap, it's like a free version of Magic Online. If anyone is interested I can post a download link.

I played in a Pro-Tour tourny. It was a limited tourny i think where they give you cards to play with. $30 entry fee. I got my ass handed to me because the cards i had sucked badly. But i got to keep them

Also... Magic is actually pretty cheap for a TCG. I have a very decent deck that cost altogether about 18$ Canadian. It's so fun to beat expensive (i.e. 250$) decks with it, whenever that can happen. Most rares that are legal in standard (T2) play are also cheap, with most going for about 3-5 dollars (also canadian) and the more expensive ones (which as we said before aren't necessary) are around ten dollars.

Compare that to Yu-Gi-Oh, where cards can be 20 and 30 bucks a pop...
Yeah, MTG's actually pretty cheap as far as hobbies go. If you're spending more than $3.50 a pack, you're paying way too much. I can take a pick of most rares for under $5. Tournament heavy-hitters may go as high as $20, but there are generally substitutes you can make.

And hey, if you know how, you can make YGO pretty profitable. Just bring a pocket scale that can weigh .1 g increments. Out of a box of boosters, just pick the heaviest ones (usually around 4-5). Voila! Depending on what you got out of those packs, the money cards can go for $30 each. Sell just one, and you've made a profit on the packs, and paid off a chunk of that scale (which is usually $10-20). Used to play the game (note: USED to), that method works fairly reliably. I intend to sell said shiny money cards for a couple hundred, soon as I can find a new card place.

TCGs: Where hobbies meet capitalistic ventures.

Ill take that link pirate. I play MTG aliitle still. No one really plays anymore
I like decks that have healing in it. It is cool to heal every turn and get 50 lifes.
I once played mt friend along time ago when he did that and my cards would give him damage and he would just heal back what he lost and then some. Now I play alot smarter now, before I had high mana cost cards that were strong and sometime I wouldnt get many mana so I had nothing. I wouldnt mind playing MTG with you pirate.

I think that Apprentice program is compatable with the Magic Set Editor 2 program. That would mean my broken Galaxy Angel Magic cards would work with that.

http://www.magic-league.com/download/apprentice.php

Get the full download if you want it. The software involves direct IP connections, so you might not be able to use it if you have a firewall or router. I suggest that everyone also get Hamachi which will make it easier to connect to each other.

What chat program should we use to meet each other? AIM would probably be best. I don't actually have AIM right now, but I'll post my name when I get it.

In the meantime, you can add my MSN, but PM me if you want to know it (I posted it once in a forum and soon I was subscribed to lots of shit I didn't want.)
