It was released in 2006 and is the latest game in the Metal Slug series. There will be a PS2 port in September 2006. Metal Slug 6 is the first main game in the franchise not to run on SNK's Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware.
Metal Slug 6 is both a departure and a return of sorts for the series. Whereas Metal Slug 4 dealt with technological and cybernetic themes and Metal Slug 5 possessed a paranormal motif, Metal Slug 6 returns to the Rebel-Martian alliance featured in Metal Slugs 2, X, and 3, but on a much broader scale. Rather than repeating the previous games' events of the Martians breaking the alliance and the Rebels assisting the player in turn, the player now teams up with the Rebels and Martians to combat an even greater threat.
[edit]
New Features
There are now two modes of play, appropriately titled Easy and Hard. In easy mode, as the name implies, the difficulty is slightly curbed, and as a bonus, the player's default weapon is the Heavy Machine Gun (it, like the pistol it replaces, has infinite ammo.) However, the game ends after only four stages. Hard mode, the self-proclaimed "biggest offensive ever", utilizes the same gameplay seen throughout the series.
Players can now carry two weapons at once. Using the Atomiswave's E Button, one can switch between the two weapons, or simply put them both away in favor of the default sidearm (note that the Two Machineguns powerup only occupies one weapon slot.) By pressing C and D simultaneously, characters can now throw away one powerup's worth of ammunition, to give to the other player or dispose of altogether. The sliding function from Metal Slug 5 has been removed altogether.
There is a new weapon, commonly known as the "Sonic Z Sword", which basically sets your melee weapon (hand knife) as your main weapon. However, when you have this power-up, Your character will swing his/her knife upward and unleash a short but powerful wave that can slice through multiple enemies. Of course, like all the other special weapons in the game, the sonic Z sword has an ammo amount, which you can refill by getting more ammo, or the weapon's icon, which is in this case, a "Z". You can see the sonic Z sword briefly in action in this video:[1]
The aliens are now rescuable hostages and will help fight with you.
New as well is the D button, which itself has no effect. In combination with the A button though, it makes the character perform a special attack. Furthermore, if D and C are pressed simultaneously, the character tosses his weapon. As in any other Metal Slug game, the A button is still for shooting, B is for jumping and C is for throwing grenades.
The score is now multiplied by powers of 2. The faster the speed at which enemies are killed, the higher the power, as a meter at the bottom of the screen shows.
Each character have its own special ability:
* Marco: Default weapon's power is doubled.
* Fio: Initially start out with heavy machine gun (easy mode will have super heavy machine gun). Ammunition & supply increased by 50%.
* Eri: Grenade supply and refill are doubled. Tossing direction of grenade can be directed using the joystick.
* Tarma: All of his special abilities is activated only when he is in a Slug. Durability and ammunition are doubled. Vulcan attack strength is increased by 50%. Direction of Vulcan can be fixed, and be fired automatically.
* Ralf: Melee specialist: Normal melee speed is doubled. Special melee is Vulcan Punch, which can damage vehicles. Ammunition and supply are reduced by 50%. He can survive the first shot, but the second shot would lose a life.
* Clark: Special melee is super Argentina backbreaker; Score is multiplied with every throw. | It's available at play-asia. I'll probably order by the end of the night since it'll never be released on another format. I'm hoping it isn't as bad as what 4 and 5 were.

A group of retarded looking monsters will appear and you will take turns hitting each other. When it is all over you will get 648 Gil and a fire ring. Why the 12 foot tall monster with no hands had a fire ring that fits everyone from you to your grandma will still be mystery to man.

Anyway, I can't wait. The levels don't look like pure suck and since I'm possibly the biggest Metal Slug fan on the universe, original Metal Slug arcade PCB owner and all, it's my obligation to purchase this.
Watch as everyone pirates this instead. ;_;

I uh, am capable of turning it on. There's no banners or instructions which you get with a typical PCB but there's some motherfucking Metal Slug in there. <3

Reason: Because imageshack's thumbnail garbage is ugly and I don't like it.

It starts out extremely easy but by the middle of stage 3, you're getting seriously hammered from all sides. I got a very small way into stage 4 before getting completely destroyed and running out of money. The stage 3 boss is pretty hard.

Its a neo-geo cabinet. If its only a single game its a neo-geo one slot motherboard running on a jamma harness. If you have multiple neo-geo games its not running on jamma. Personally its nice to have a single slot, even though you can't switch games on the fly like a 4 slot neo-geo, but you can take out that motherboard, and still have a regular jamma cabinet. Play some street fighter 2 turbo or whatever?. Either way its not a pcb. (correct me if i'm wrong, but i didn't think metal slug was on a pcb) I think there is a PCB for metal slug 5, at least mame tells me so
Think of a neo-geo motherboard like a Super Nintendo. You plug in games and simply swap them out when you get bored. You could get on ebay, buy some MVS carts for a neo-geo and have a bunch more games to play. You simply pop the metal slug cart out, and put the new one in. Its that easy.
On Topic: Yea I had mine pre-ordered months ago, can't wait. It's a bit pricey since I just know I'm going to see a domestic release for 29.99.

Multi Video System.
You know you can get other Metal Slug games for about are under $100. Installing is just as easy as putting a cart into a SNES.
Check the prices here.
Metal slug X goes for $10 in some cases.
Got any other questions about the system then ask me.
About Metal Slug 6...
