The only reason I can think of as to why they chose to put this on the DS is because the PSP got the anthology. Metal Slug 7 will apparently feature several new slugs, all of the characters from the last game and the Combat School, which makes its first appearance since the PS1 port of Metal Slug X. It is scheduled for Japanese release on 17 July.
Please let it not feature aliens.

Game looks great, but I think they could've been a little bit more creative on the use of the touch screen.

I need to play the Anthology game. I played MS1, 2, & X on GameTap when they were free. I'm gonna buy this when it comes out.

Although I am glad they didn't try to add any touch screen stuff to it, because I just cant see the fun in dieing during heavy action because I had to reach down and try to do something on the touch screen. My guess as to why it's on DS is just because it would probably be a lot more profitable for SNK that way. In the US at least, most people would expect it to be budget priced on a console. PS2 because the system is "outdated." On 360 most people expect arcade games like this to be a 5 or 10 dollar XBLA download even though it's a brand new game. Same with PS3. But on DS a lot more people would be willing to pay full price for it.
But despite my ranting I still think this game looks awesome. I actually just preordered it last week along with the Japanese version of the Samurai Spirits collection, which comes out a week later on July 24.

I can totally see them charging full price for the game on a current gen. console without having problems with PEOPLE NOT WANTING TO PAY MUCH FOR IT CAUSE ITS NOT HELLA-GFX. This is of course applying to America-only. I see the reasoning for releasing this on the DS is because it'd sell the most on it. Japan does still have strong PS2 titles though, but the DS is a good choice.
