One Wii console for £180, one game and one Wiimote and Nunchuk attachment is bound to be cheaper than $599, even if Nintendo are being a bit silly with the pricing of the controllers and addons. Also remember we aren't having to buy memory cards (at least not straight away) so Nintendo need to make money somewhere.

My point is that at this point we have no idea how many developers are going to get fed up with the regular controller and make us buy add-ons or other such peripherals. And the controllers are expensive to begin with.

Nintendo are hardcore dicks a lot of the time.

I'm worried about the controller situation for Nintendo. They don't exactly have the best track record when it comes to peripherals.

The only argument for this I can see is that it saves space. This is especially important for the Japanese, who generally live in smaller establishments.

I thought we were talking about peripherals. :/ Which would be pretty unreliable; N64 controllers' joysticks wear out pretty fast, and I have 3 GCN controllers that no amount of cleaning will make work correctly.

Man, you need to stop abusing your controllers. I still have the same GCN controllers I bought with the system and a Wavebird for about 3 years. The exteriors and joystick are a little worn out but they work perfectly fine. And they still see regular use.

Nonono. I meant the peripherals sucking is ironic given that the systems are invulnerable.

I just wonder why the two have such different standards. (And in their defense: I fucking FELL ONTO an N64 controller, and despite hearing a loud crack from it, the thing continued working for another 4 years.)

but seriously, their consoles really are durable! I don't know about the controllers being weak though, I took my n64 controller through some hardcore gaming times and it still works perfectly fine. The area around the joystick is awfully dusty from what I assume is bits of the joystick being slowly grinded to dust but it still works fine and that's all that matters as of yet.

But.. aren't we getting off topic now??

Aren't your GCN controllers broken because you brother was always eating stuff, then playing GameCube without washing his hands?

And my N64 controller just broke the other month. It made me sad.

I thought that originally, but 3 of them? He hardly even plays the GCN any more... Also cleaning (like, opening and cleaning; no corner-of-the-button toothbrush shit) did nothing to help the problems, which are primarily in the triggers and C-sticks.

I do, and it still works perfectly.

Don't worry about the peripherals. It's just stupid thinking on your own part and not enough thought actually put into it. In any case where a special controller is involved, I seem to remember them saying that the pricing scheme would be that the controller add-on for the game would be packaged in with the game and that it'd be $5 more than the norm.

Also, the controllers aren't expensive. You aren't supposed to buy four so people can all come and use yours. Your friends are supposed to have them too (haha, not in a lot of cases I'm guessing) since the controllers themselves hold personal data like your Mii. Still, think about the technology you're using. It's all in the controller. The PS3's SIXAXIS controller is $50 and it doesn't even have rumble (because they said they were trying to cut costs on the controller hahaha). It's really not that bad.

As for controller cleanings, the N64 is the only Nintendo thing I've ever had problems with. The controllers just died quickly. My launch day GC stuff is still basically mint and I play it quite a bit even now.

For the most part, I'm seeing "jaded" gamers trying their best to come up with lame excuses for why they think everything will be bad. The phrase "fed up" with the regular controller just makes me shake my head. That's honestly a pretty lame statement to make, considering the controller was created to be reconfigurable right off the bat. You don't get "fed up" with that idea, you get creative.

1. Never said the PS3 was any better.

2. Worst fucking idea EVER, having everyone "bring their own controller." Guess what, butto? I'm one of two of my imediate crew that has a GCN, one of two with a DC, one of two with an N64... I don't deny that that very well maybe be Nintendo's reasoning (look at the fucking GBA/GBA->GCN Link Cable stuff for Crystal Chronicles), I'm just saying... What a bad fucking idea.
