Default modding old style ps2's to play imports

I wanted to start getting import IIDX games.
I saw a guide for the slim ps2's for modding them for imports like 10 or so more pages back, but I'm not sure if it's the same for old style or fat ps2's. So, if i can get some help with this it would be much appreciated.
I'm sorry. i know this discussion may get many of these threads, but I tried looking before i posted this.
Thanks.

No, modding a Fat PS2 is a bit different. Look into Fliptops, they're really easy to install and use. Just pop off the top of the case and put in the new one, and you're done.

The fliptop is so you can use a disc swapping DVD like Swap Magic.

How it works:

1) Insert Swap Magic DVD.
2) Wait for Swap Magic DVD to stop moving inside the DVD tray. On the screen, it will tell you to switch in your DVD.
3) Instead of using the eject button, you use the flip top and pull out the Swap Magic DVD. This will keep the PS2 from detecting that the DVD has been removed.
4) Insert beatmania IIDX game of choice and close the flip top.
5) Press button on the controller to "boot" the game.
6) Enjoy the game.

I hope that was clear.

With these special discs called Swap Magic. They're included when you purchase the fliptop.

Also, moved.

Step 1: Buy this. It's a pair of boot discs and a fliptop. Depending on PS2 version and how familiar/comfortable you are with dismantling electronics you're looking at ten to forty-five minutes of tinkering, but it's pretty much idiot proof and ultimately you'll end up with a PS2 with a different lid. Buy it from that site in particular: modmonster is great!

Step 2: DON'T STAND YOUR PS2 VERTICALLY IT'LL FALL OVER OH GOD, also don't use the eject button anymore.

Step 3: As you stand over your newly modified PS2's shell, you'll note that the package included those two previously mentioned boot discs. One is labeled DVD; the other, CD! IIDX styles all the way back to 3rd did ship on DVDs, if I'm not mistaken, so you'd be using the DVD disc. You can follow the instructions in valius's post for that.

There are lots of guides on how to disassemble and reassemble a PS2 online, so just try Googling first. But if that fails go ahead and ask one of the people in this thread and we'll help you out.

Why do sites like that always tend to also carry surveillance equipment?

Kinda on-topic: Anyone tried the non-solder DMC4s? Do they work pretty well?

Kinda off topic as well, since this is dealing with the PStwo fliptop. I had it model with the fliptop mod and I have a few questions:

-Sometime it won't read the imported disk. Do I have to swap it real quick?
-Also, I get game freezes, but their rare. Could this be a dirty lens?
-Is there a swap disk for PS1 games?

Dude, I remember when I first installed my fliptop.
It didn't have the little white thing in that picture so it shot my discs out and shit and I freaking wanted to kill my ps2, because it fucked up my Swap CD disc.

So eventually I popped that little bastard out of my fat case and put it in my new fliptop.
After that I lived happily ever after playing ddr 8, Initial D, and Gradius 5.

Nope! Probably what's happening is that the disc isn't in perfectly straight. I have this problem sometimes, it has to do with the way the fliptop is made and there's not really a fix beyond being careful. It could also be a lens problem.

Maybe!

Yes, actually, but you could also get some files onto your memory card to just boot the PS1 games normally. I'm not totally sure how to do that, however; Arimasen posted a guide once a long time ago, but hell if I know where he is now. Someone else might come along with something though.
