Nintendo doesnt want to risk the game not selling (Which it would now, but didnt when it first came out.)

I mean, Panel De Pon was too cutesy for me, and I'm all about cutesy.
Then again, this is the company that decided to start releasing FE games in America, but skipped the one with Roy in it.

Then again, this is the company that decided to start releasing FE games in America, but skipped the one with Roy in it. | I don't know what exactly is Cute about Panel De Pon. You can make little girls cry. Nothing about that is cute.
Anyway.
Also, keep in mind, FE falls under the same group of guys who keep re branding Panel De Pon. (Except Pokemon Puzzle League, that they had NOTHING to do with, thank god.) If you aren't well versed on what "Intelligent Systems" is, you should hit wikipedia and learn something about some of the greatest games of all time, and who wrote them.
Also, again, it boils down to Earthbound NOT have done well in the United States the first time. Keep in mind, Panel De Pon in its original form would sell ridiculously well here, among its fans. Which is where Earthbound would sell. Thats why they aren't releasing it here, they cant come up with a way to make everybody else buy it too.
Shit, the only reason we keep getting new Puzzle League games here is because up until Planet Puzzle League they were passing the game off as a easily re branded puzzle game that had little value, or the bastard cousin of Dr. Mario. Planet Puzzle League was done under "Touch Generations" which means they want old people and young people to play it. something I don't quite understand because this game gets epic in multi player mode. While my Grandmother is fully ready to play the game (and does whenever I lend her my DS) I don't think shes quite ready for the cursing flying graphics everywhere fuck fest that is multi player in that game.
So basically the entire argument boils down to Nintendo's new stance, how can we get more people to play more games, not how can we get the same people to play the same games.

Marketplace Rating: 3 | Nintendo is considering releasing it stateside, but it's all gonna be based on sales of Earthbound on the VC. The better that does, the better our chances.
And Dan, I totally disagree with you. Earthbound wouldn't only sell to it's fan base. RPGs are pretty universally accepted at this point, especially on hand helds. Series' that no one has ever heard of in the US do well now upon release because the genre itself has grown significantly in the past 5 or 6 years. All they would have to do to sell Mother 3 in the U.S. is make sure that people know it's an RPG and actually advertise it.
Earthbound "failed" because it was released at a time when very few RPGs did extremely well. Final Fantasy was about the only series that had any kind of success in the U.S. before the Playstation came out, Chrono Trigger possibly bundled with that only because of the Squaresoft connection. I don't think the marketing campaign hurt it as much as the fan base would really like to make it out to. If anything they executed it cleverly with the whole scratch and sniff thing to go with it. Earthbound was just a huge risk, if they would've released the original for NES they probably would've done better. But that's not even a guarantee, look at Dragon Warrior/Quest. They completely skipped 5 and 6 in the U.S. because RPGs just weren't selling. It's not like 1-4 did horribly, the genre was just really hard to make money on.
I think Nintendo has a plan for the franchise, it's mentioned all the time and they have acknowledged that the series does indeed exist and that Mother 3 was released. Some people within N.O.A. have gone as far as to comment on the quality of the game itself. It's not a matter of whether it's a safe bet to do it yet or not, I think it's much more a matter of "what platform do we release it on?" They have so many options at this point (VC, GBA, DS) that they really have to figure out which will perform the best for them financially.

I'd prefer a DS release. At the very least they can allow you to go through menus with the touch screen because it's faster that way.
