Hi guys,
I live in Australia, which means my PS2 is Pal region encoded.. which also means that
a. Import games do not work on my PS2 because its not NTSC
b. Beatmania US is not sold here because Australia is gay
Mostly I just want to play IIDX without having to pay $2 at the arcade machine.. and also because I just started out and therefore suck.
So, I'm looking at either chipping my PS2, or getting a Japanese PS2.
What are the options out there if I want to chip my PS2? (which is really the better option) I don't really want to have to do anything to it by myself, because chances are I'll break something in the process, as I am liable to do..
Any advice appreciated.

If you aren't doing it yourself, then at this point chipping it is not the better option.
If you were thinking about getting a ps3 though, nows your fucking chance. The PS3 is region free for its games only, but PS2 compatibility is tied to its region. grab a Japanese one and you're set.

Katze has the right idea here. Go for a japanese ps3. You'll be able to play the imported bemani and any ps3 game.

Well, thing is I have never had any intention of getting a PS3.. bad reviews, too damn expensive, no games of interest to me.. etc.

If you don't want a PS3. I guess just pick up a JP PS2.
Not the best decision, but it's what your interested in it seems.

Uh, I think all of you guys are missing the fact that IIDX and other Bemani controllers DON'T WORK ON THE PS3.  So it really doesn't matter at this point whether the games will technically boot up on the PS3 because he can't use the controllers designed for the games.

Another option I considered was just getting a IIDX KOC, and then just hooking up to my laptop with a PSX>USB adaptor and playing from a sim.. a kind of cheaper option, but I'm not sure if there will be issues with lag and compatibility. Would really like some advice about that, tbh.
