Default The "new" PSP?

Someone confirm this for me as not being complete blasphemy, but I had just picked up an issue of PSM (october), and on page 34, it describes how Sony is now in the process of upgrading the PSP's hardware.

Here are some of the changes that I read about that you would want to know...

Quote:
1. The "new" PSP, will not be called PSP2 or anything, it will remain PSP.
2. The new default color for this new PSP is going to be white, with a shade of sky blue on the strip in the middle.
3. "Sony has, as of this writing, reached a deal with Samsung to purchase a large amount of eight gigabyte (8GB) flash memory chips, which are to be built into the new PSP according to numorous semiconductor industry reports." -PSM
"Having 8GB of rewritable memory in the PSP as a standard feature is likely a key part of Sony's plans for funneling downloadable content to the handheld via the Playstation 3." -PSM
4. "The new PSP is said by sources familiar with it's development to look very similar to the current design, only streamlined to an extent. It's said to be thinner and lighter than the current PSP,...., the complex UMD "hatch" is being replaced by a "slot loading" configuration whereby UMD discs are inserted directly into the system." -PSM
5. And thank you god, the new PSP will still be $199.99. I figured Sony would jack up the price again to make some ca$h, but this seems like a good turnaround. All Sony has to do now is create some sort of trade-in deal, where existing PSP owners can trade in their current PSP for the new one. At little or no cost.
So there you go.
Most of the rest of the article was opinions on whether or not this is too soon, or things they thought should be added. eg. 2nd analog stick.

No word is out yet on when this "new PSP is coming out, but it should be sometime soon. Around PS3's launch.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the PSP eye toy that will be coming out for PSP sometime soon, that it is going to be built-in to this new system. With the screen being like a digital camera screen. Interesting. Let me guess, you take pics with the R button.

Why the 12 foot tall monster with no hands had a fire ring that fits everyone from you to your grandma will still be mystery to man.

As long as SCEI corrects all those design issues from the original PSP (too fragile, ridiculous problems with the digital pad response, etc), I'll be interested in this hardware upgrade.

I'll wait until SCEI makes the official announcement, if this thing is serious.

I know they were talking about making a new PSP. I've been waiting to hear more until I purchase one, and if this is real, then hot damn, I'll be getting one of these...too bad it's default color is white though, won't go with the rest of my collection

I'm not sure what you mean entirely, but this is not just an upgrade from the Sony site, this is a BRAND NEW psp.

You will either have to go out and buy it, or if Sony is smart, trade in your old one for the new PSP.

It seems that it will eventually become an option through the PS3 yes.
You will be able to "transfer" games from the PS3 to your new PSP, and im sure people will hack it to let you put whatever you want on it.

I want Crash Bandicoot 2 on my PSP.

This is all, ALL speculation, Sony has said they have no plans to release a redesign or a price drop for the PSP.

I mean they're too busy dealing with one failure of a system to worry about another one.

I don't think the connectivity will be a necessary feature.

I mean... look at the "GBA / GCN" case. It didn't work :/

Well you see if Sony decides to add the second analog stick, all the new games can't be played on the old PSP.

And that would be a problem.

BTW, this is most possibly NOT a rumor. It has already started with that shipment of 8GB chips to Sony. And Sony has already talked with PSM about it.

We will find out soon enough anyway.

CABLES. I swear it was the need to buy cables that killed it.

Which is why multiplayer DS games are so much better than GBA multiplayer. CABLES. Or lack thereof.

If Sony integrated a wireless connectivity thing, it'd probably do halfway decently.

But it would do better if they'd just give SOME FUCKING GOOD GAMES.

Three games does not justify a $200 investment. Not to mention cost of said games.

But right now, Sony's a little pre-occupied cleaning up the fallout from E3. Without some major changes, they're setting up to fail bigger than the GameCube. Which, in retrospect, was not the best system.
