Playing import PS1 games on a PS2?

I figured if anyone would know the solution to this, you guys would.

I just purchased Persona 2: Innocent Sin(unlocalized PS1 game), and my PS2's swap magic says it's 'not a valid PS2 disc'.

Is there any way around this, or will I be required to get a PS1 and modify that somehow?

PS2 Swap Magic is only for PS2 games.

However, I hear that you can play PS1 games by doing the following:

1. Boot up your PS2 with no game in it, and go to the Browser menu.
2. Put in a legit American PS1 game.
3. Once it loads and you see the CD show up on the menu screen, use your fliptop or slidecard to switch to whatever PS1 game you want to play.
4. Start the game and it'll work without checking the region encoding again.

That's...interesting. Is there anything in particular on which this doesn't work? Otherwise I think my PS1 collection is gonna grow substantially in the near future.

If this works, you're a life-saver.

I have one problem so far; it doesn't seem to stop spinning when I open the door. I don't want to risk damaging the system in the process.

Also, someone told me this is because I'm using a DVD swap magic? Will a CD one work for PS1 games?

I'm fairly certain it means CD based PS2 games (MVC2 etc), and sadly not PS1 games.

Yeah, Swap Magic discs (CD or DVD) are for PS2 games only. They don't work for PS1 games so you have to be tricky like that swap method.

I used to do that process with PS2 backups that read well, but weren't detected. I had to use uLaunchELF.

I though they made PS1 Swap Magic, at least a camper at this computer camp I work at over the summer told me of the alleged existance.

not swapmagic. Breaker Pro, maybe. I know it works on PS1s, maybe on PS2s as well?

the swapmagic site doesn't even hint to a PS1 version.

Breaker Pro will work on a PS2 but I always hear a fair amount of bitching about compatibility. I have no idea if it's actually significantly limited or if it's just the internet echo chamber at work.

Breaker Pro, at the very least, does not work with PS1 Beatmania games. So, there are some compatibility issues right there.

For rmz's method, are you using a fat or thin ps2, because on my slimline ps2, it keeps spinning the legit disc at the browser screen, should I take out the spinning disc and replace it with the import (5th mix)

He already mentioned that it's going to keep spinning. You just have to be really careful.

I can tell lol I just did it, the laser was making these noises like it was looking for a disc (which I assume is normal), anyways, THANKS, I LOVE being able to play 5th mix!
