Please stop the PS3 Bashing

Ever since Sony announced the price of the PS3 at a astounding $600, i've seen nothing but bashing about the PS3. Well I'm here to defend it.

First of all, if any of you would actually read about what this weekend is for video games instead of just insulting the console, you would know that it's TGS (Tokyo Game Show) and that Ken Kuturagi (Sony gaming President) gave the keynote speech saying how that the PS3 will be sold in two forms, one with a 20 GB HDD and one with a 60 GB HDD (20 GB will be something like $400 while the 60 GB HDD will still be $600) and the fact that they all are having support for HDTV's. so pretty much stop the whole "It's overpriced waa waa i'm gonna go slit my wrists waa waa i'm gonna go fuck my Wii when it comes out" because the Xbox 360 originally sold for $400.

But the fact that Sony is using Blu-Ray technology for the games is what is driving the prices sky high (not just the console but the games too), now the crazy thing is that if Sony wanted to beat HD-DVD they would drop the prices right? (and the Xbox 360 is now going to start having support for HD-DVD which is going to make Sony drive to come out on top of the optical wars) But think about this, the PS3 wont have the life-like quality in it's games if they didn't use next-gen format. And probably, by the time the PS3 comes out, the price will be dropped (if not, it will drop in like 1-3 months).

Now I know the whole motion sensor in the controller is a blatant rip-off of the Wii's remote control technology, but lets face it. Ultimately video games are going to be virtual reality and this is the first step towards VR entertainment (Sony is just going along for the ride, and Microsoft will too next-gen).

As for the games, if you aren't excited for stuff like Metal Gear Solid 4, Virtua Fighter 5, Final Fantasy XIII, Devil May Cry 4, and Heavenly Sword then you might as well surrender your gamer status now (seriously, even though you may hate Sony for driving the prices sky high, you cant think that the stuff they're showing isn't cool)

Provided bemanistyle dosent upgrade to a new version of forums and these threads get lost, I want to preserve this thread and see how many people argue my points, because when the PS3 comes out, I wanna see how many people buy it, and when they say they bought it, I'll be the guy on this forum saying

"I told you so"

edit: how about Sony's "me too!!" attitude about basically everything they implement into their system? The motion sensor in the controller was the first step. Now they're emulating Wii's Virtual Console by trying to allow Genesis and TB-16 games to be downloaded for fees through Sony's online service.

Can't forget the latest rumors that the system won't even be backwards compatible any longer.

I don't think anyone is saying that the PS3 won't sell. It will sell. It's Sony and it's a PlayStation, of course it will sell. That's like saying "Windows Vista won't sell because OSX Panther is 347502348752098 better." No, it will still sell because Microsoft makes it and people trust Microsoft with their money.

And I don't think anyone is saying that the PS3 won't EVENTUALLY be good, but Sony has just messed up SO MUCH this time that they ARE going to be hurting come launch time. The PS3 launch will most likely be overshadowed by the Wii launch specifically because of all the bungles that Sony has made within the past 6 months. Also, the sheer fact that Sony is only releasing 400,000 systems worldwide ONE WEEK prior to the busiest shopping day OF THE YEAR is going to cause a MASSIVE riot if the console launch goes well. There is no way Sony can recover before the holidays with what they're doing. They're killing their chances to sell this thing and make their money.

Remember the XBox 360 launch and the shortages they experienced around holiday season of last year? And Microsoft shipped 1.5 MILLION consoles and they were all sold out within a week. Massive shortages and people were STEALING 360s. Oh sure, you can consider this "marketing hype and demand", but the sheer practice of it is ludicrous. The whole point would be to get as many systems out the door and in people's hands as possible before the end of the holiday season.

And that's where a lot of people fear Sony is going to fail spectacularly. Once the holiday season is over, how many people do you think are going to shell out over half a grand for a gaming console? Not many.

Sony literally has played themselves into the hands of Microsoft and Nintendo for this holiday season. Sad to say. Hopefully the PS3 can survive and Sony can try and pull back into the console war, but they really have the deck stacked against them.

You say stop the PS3 bashing, but we're not bashing it. Sony's done that themselves...we're just standing idly by and making commentary on the fact that this is all their own fault.

OP, you can't STOP PS3 bashing. sorry. there is always people who will/won't like the console you like and dont want bashed, and will openly bash it. you can't assume that your opinion about something with as many different platforms as videogames come in to be the one and only opinion that is correct.
