Because most of them are terrible, and you can't unlearn them.

Yeah, you'll just want some "trash" Pokémon to take up HMs. Tropius and Gyarados were the ones to use in Ru/Sa.

Unless it's surf, surf is actually quite a good offensive attack

edit: we should soo use some of the battle frontier rules.

Surf is an ok move, but I would never put it on a pokemon that I actually planned on using in battles. The two best HM mules are rhydhorn and nodiran on the GBA versions, I'm not us re about D/P though.

Move Deleter

Also Surf got a little worse in D/P but only because of the attack split so Aqua Tail and Waterfall are more viable options for physical based water users. Otherwise stick with Surf as normal.

The move deleter is there, but if you put an HM move on a pokemon you plan on using, it may be a while before you get to the move deleter. Then you've had only 3 free move slots and you may not be able to have the best movelist, or you may lose a move you really would need. For that reason , keeping a few HM mules is the best thing to do

I got in some time between German Cultures and German. Won the 3rd badge and evolved my Staraiva into a Staraptor. I need someone to trade with to get my Machamp and Golem :/
