Default Possibly getting a Japanese candy cab...

I recently found a guy in Seattle selling a japanese 4 slot neo geo/jamma candy cabinet...

http://www.libblerabble.com/neogeo/neogeo.jpg

He says it would be 500 bucks and I would be able to just come in and pic it up. The unit looks like it is in great shape. It has the sound connector for jamma games and is all set up and whatnot. The monitor is also 25 inch. My friend has a jamma/cps2 cabinet and Neo Geo US 4 slot cabinet, he was going to come with me to check it out. It doesn't come with any games, but I could easilly get some. I dont' know how many people here on BMS are into arcade cabinets, but do you guys think this is a good price for a cabinet??? I'll probably be looking at it next week. I believe the cabinet is from the late 90s.

I haven't seen a LOT of those, but I have seen them before, and $500 seems a little high. Although, if you can pick it up locally, you may save a truckload on shipping another one, so it may balance out.

The one thing to stress when looking into purchasing arcade cabinets is DO YOUR HOMEWORK. I've seen so many people get burned bad just because they didn't thoroughly inspect and research what they were buying.

What I want to know is who in Japan uses those machines and how. An arcade I go to has such a machine with Taisen Puzzle Dama and used to have an accompanying stool, but now that it's gone, kneeling in front of it just looks wrong.

I've seen those go for $200-300 (you're basically paying for the monitor), but 4-slot MVS's are good for about $100-200. So all things considered, $500 isn't a HUGE ripoff.

For the CPS2 however, make sure you have the convertor to use the 6-button set-up and your cabinet has JAMMA connectors for non-MVS (IIRC, MVS and other JAMMA games use slightly different connectors, and CPS2 for 6-button games like SF Alpha needs a JAMMA piggy-back to support the extra buttons).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I also suggest you do a little searching online to see general pricing. And definitely make sure everything on that cabinet is in full working order before you agree to pay the money. The monitor is the one thing that can be REALLY expensive to replace.

In Japan, they use those sit-down cabinets for their same games we play on the upright stand-up cabinets. Japanese don't have the upright cabinets U.S. arcades do (just like they use ball-and-stick and Americans use the straight-stick joysticks...for lack of better wording).

The sit-down cabs are neat too because some arcades set it up facing each other so you don't share one cabinet with two people, and if you're playing a V.S. game, the other person sits on the other side so you may not see who you're playing against. Some Namco arcades in the U.S. had them set up here.

I'm into arcade cabinets and I'm looking to pick one up later in the year at an arcade auction but thats not what the topics about.

The cabinet looks to be in great shape.

The price is a bit high but this is local so you don't have to pay for shiping costs so it evens out.

Basicly, eveything I've said has already been said but another major thing is to make sure you can get games for it. Without it, you wasted $500.

Also, you need to read up about carring for cabinets a boards because these things are fragial.

Edit: Yo, you might want to find what kind of cabinet it is here and see if it has any info on it.

The screen wills spin and battle music will start to play. You and drunk friends will be forced to stand in a line rocking back and forth holding over sized swords. A group of retarded looking monsters will appear and you will take turns hitting each other. When it is all over you will get 648 Gil and a fire ring. Why the 12 foot tall monster with no hands had a fire ring that fits everyone from you to your grandma will still be mystery to man.

Thanks for the help. I've decided to hold off for now due to other expenses. If the guy still has the machine in a month or so, I told him I'd still be interested. I know these cabinets are more common to locally pick up in California, but not in Washington.

Baka, how easy would it be to get a new control panel for something like this? I thought about trying to make it 6 button wiht a Capcom kick harness, but I thought it might be hard toget to a new control panel.

Since it's an MVS cabinet, finding MVS carts are piss easy and cheap too (at least on eBay). I don't know about regions though (as in, I don't know if MVS has region lockouts, I don't think they do).

If you get a CPS2 A-board in there, getting the corresponding B-boards are also not too hard to find.

The basics of it: don't be an idiot with them.

Are you talking about the control panel as in where the joystick and pushbuttons are?

Yep well (+-)

I saw too the impress cabinet (capcom jamma cabinet) and is similar in size and colors but the it has a 29 in screen and high quality speakers (built in stereo power amplifier) and is a pretty cabinet:
