Default PS2 controller ribbon cable coming unpluged.

I come home from clas this evening, lloking to undwind with some IIDX, when the game tells me that there is no memory card in the slot. I then try to move the cursor onscreen and nothing is working. It turns out that the system is not seeing that I have anything at all pluged into the system. I am thinking Great, now my ps2 is busted. I take it upon myself to try to see what the problem is and to try to fix it. It turns out that the ribbon cable that connected the controller ports to the system board came unplug somehow. At first it took a little work to get it pluged back in, but eventually I got it working again. I was wondering if this has happen to anyone else before? It does not seem like a common problem, but I am still baffeled on just how it got unpluged in the first place

To get it unplugged you probabally like shook it around alot and if you got it fixed and its all good i dont think you have anything to worry about yet.

My memory cards have come loose before, and my controller port 1 has been acting up every once awhile.

Was your system ever open at any point in time? The ribbons on PS2s always seem to enjoy coming loose, but only when the system is opened up in my experience.

I have a similar problem with my modded system, where the memory card port doesn't register as easily after I moved my PS2 around (like taking it to a friend's house). It settles down after a little bit, but the initial plug-in is come and go.

Any fix for that?

I ended up fixing my problem and since then I have not had any problem. In order to fix the problem, I had to open up my unit though. If you have an older ps2, chances are that the warenty is up on it, so it should not matter if you do open it or not. What I found as the easiest way to put the ribbon back in is to remove the mottem half of the ps2 and to make sure that the ribbon cable is hook up property. Unlike a ribbon cable on hard drive, this one does not have a easy plug in. You have to slide it in and close the lid on it. So make sure you have it in good befoe you close it up.

Not really, I know mines because I dick around inside too much, plus its a launch day ps2. Just comes loose when I move it around.

my old ps2, which i got within a month or 2 of the release date, did that a lot, then it stopped reading discs, and now it just sits in a corner collecting dust. i bought a slim ps2 a few months back, modded it, and so far i havent seen any cable problems.

For a PS2 how do I reattach the controller port ribbon cable to the motherboard if the latch fell off?

I have tried using electric tape to hold it down. I also tried holding it down with my finger. Neither method worked.
