Marketplace Rating: 0 | PS2 HDD? Do they sell PS2 Hard Drives alone anymore? Did they ever sell them alone? Or is it only bundled with Final Fantasy? I want to get one because my memory card is FULL. My brother stupidly deleted the Jak and Daxter game data to make room. I HAD 98 FREAKIN POWER CELLS MAN!!! Anyway, do they sell it?

The original author of HDLoader has long since stopped selling the program, and the bulk of those sold online are old, unpatched pirated versions. It's better just to download an updated version if you're going to use it.
HDLoader still won't do what you're looking for though. As for using an off-brand memory card, don't. You sound like the type who gets attached to your game data, and if you use a third party card you're guaranteed to suffer a data loss sooner or later when the card becomes corrupted. Pay the little bit extra for a Sony card.

i do remember watching cheesy commercials on crap paid programming spots about it, full of nonsense bullcrap aimed at guys who buy stuff with fancy words they dont understand in the commercials

Your best bet is to go to a Wal-Mart or something and try and find a copy of the Final Fantasy XI bundle and buy it that way. There was a massive price drop for them, so they're around $30-50 now.
But, in order to USE the HDD on a PlayStation 2, you also have to buy the Network Adapter as well (which is another $15-20). I found this out the hard way when trying to get everything I needed to get HDLoader (a LONG FREAKING TIME AGO, mind you).
But as MadRoll already said, the only thing you can do with the HDD in terms of Memory Card stuff is move saves over for storage. Games won't read saves from the HDD. The only exception to this is Final Fantasy XI, but that's a whole other story.
Just buy yourself another official Sony memory card, and get one in another color from the one you currently have, so you won't confuse the two. IT'd be cheaper and easier.

Any hard drive can be used if you have a modchip that supports a feature called ATAD auto-patching (and I wouldn't think you're willing to go that route), which is almost every modern original chip out there. Anyone who uses a new HDLoader patched version (which you should never have to pay for, by the way) will tell you that for all the games it supports, it's well worth the effort to get it to work as it vastly reduces loading times and reserves laser life only for the handful of games it doesn't support. Just remember that if you won't get a modchip, you're limited to the 40 GB of the official drive, which won't store too many games. The two main ways to use it are either to use either the so-called memory card exploit to store HDLoader on your memory card (which is a file of about 600 KB) and run it from there or to burn it on a CD-R and use Swap Magic if you don't have a modchip. (Hint: If you ever try HDLoader and a modchip, never use a Western Digital drive. To use one requires modification of the network adapter.) Quote:

If someone finds a bundle for 30-50 bucks, reply here since I'll buy it.

It really is a shame though how the Harddrive didn't do much for anything except allow you to play FFXI. This just proves once and for all that add-ons for consoles DO NOT WORK. I mean, just how many people out there like the idea of having to buy a new part just to play the latest game? It may be okay for PC gamers but for console gamers, wayy biggg NO.

It just disgusts me over the mentality of console gamers. God forbid you spent 100 dollars to play a new generation of games, sigh. Sony pissed me off even more. They actually forced developers to remove FINISHED Hard drive content from their games. Final Fantasty X used the harddrive as did Xenosaga.
Thats why the ps3 is so big and expensive. The ps2 was supposed to be the same way, and they tried to give people "options", but no one bought them, hence nothing ever happened like they planned. You were supposed to be able to download demos, movies all kinds of shit with that harddrive.
