Default ps3 mod chip

dont actually own one myself but i figured i'd make a thread about it anywho...cause i can
anywho...$100 bucks for a mod chip is pretty damn steep, especially if you have no soldering skills (aka me-installed a ps2 one but the psp wires look like dental floss...) and have to pay more to get it installed...

Exclamation Don't get too excited by Undiluted Platinum Mod chips

THE LATEST PSP 3d Undiluted Platinum mod chips might have more disadvantages than advantages, according to the PSP 3D Mag, here.

The $90 chip will allow you to bring a PSP back from the dead after an unfinished firmware upgrade, or a flash editing mishap, will allow you to switch to all firmwares of the PSP on-the-fly. It will also allow the homebrew launching for those PSPs which do not have the capability.

However, the site says that installation is a pain in the butt, requiring soldering and other messy things.

Installing it will auto-void your warranty and means that you can't call Sony for a replacement if anything goes wrong. In some parts of the world they may be illegal.

Sony might start getting shirty against developers who support the chip and will almost certainly take legal action against the chip soon, the site says. It will also start releasing firmware updates that will include 'security' updates that will tigger the chip anyway.

All up it is probably better to spend the $90 on a used GameBoy Advance, and pop in a few cheap games and is less likely to tigger up your system.

Here's the source of this arcticle.

The "voids" your warrenty part is true of almost any internal modding device, for any system. I don't know the PSP's warrenty length, but I suspect it's nothing exceptionally long, meaning you might not be covered for a replacement anyway.

The big thing would definitely be the installation. It's one thing to try and mod a system that has no warrenty, it's another try and fuck it up. Paricularly given the cost of getting a replacement system...
