Marketplace Rating: 0 | Psp in this thread you can talk about the psp or its games but i have a couple of questions about the psp and i hope that someone can answer them.
first of all, is it worth getting? i want one but $250 is a lot to spend for one thing. i like that you can play games, listen to music, and watch movies on it, but still.
secondly, i want to know what you think of the games. what is valkyrie profile (the one for ps1) like? and do you think it will be a good one for the psp? same with monster hunter and blade dancer.
thanks for any advice you can give me.

Unless you're willing to shell out $250 for the thing itself, $100 for a 1 GB memory stick, and hundreds more of importing all the good games since the ones in the US are all LOLSHITTYSPORTSANDRACINGGAMES, then it could be.

I'm seriously not being fanboy right now, if you want good gaming at an affordable price, stick with a DS.

I can't wait for MK Unchained.
Err....

| No idea what VP is like, but I'll hazard a guess that it will be similar to the original release. Monster Hunter is okay if you have people to play it with; if you don't I'm sure XLink or something would allow you to find a willing partner. I can't offer an opinion on Blade Dancer.
In terms of overall value, I think it's a fine system. I enjoy the games available for it and like to use it as an mp3 player if I happen to have it with me. If you look at the library and want a ton of weird-ass stuff like the DS has--not a knock against that system, before anyone takes it that way--then you'll be disappointed, but it has its fair share of really neat games that I happen to enjoy.
If you get one, get this case for it. I've had mine for ages and it really is damn near indestructible. If you're fashion conscious, I think other regions may have gotten other colors. It's $20 but it's money well spent.
If you have any other questions, ask away. kimcicle might have some other advice for you when he notices the thread.

One thing to be careful about is that your memory card slot and your analouge stick will get dirty, and you'll go nuts cleaning the port cover (the analouge stick pops off). Still, I only paid 250 for it, normal retail price (plus shipping of course).
I've been trying not to buy VP untill its US release, i'd go nuts playing the import because my literacy rate isn't par in japanese >.> My friend who has it tells me that it is a remake though, but follows very faithfuly to the original.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | Is it worth it? That depends on how much you're going to use it ^_^
If you don't have an mp3 already, then it's a great buy!
If you have free time or time to kill (like in between class) and
want to watch something, sweet!
If you a hardcore gamer, well, there's not much to please you
because there ARE good games for it, just not a large library.
VP is a great game for ps1, i hear the PSP one will have
a little more load times. Monster Hunter is very fun/challenging
only if you have people to play with... 1 player is rather rough.
If i may suggest Metal Gear Ac!d if you're into tactics/rpgs.
Also, 1GB memory sticks now run for about $35-45.
Check out Outpost.com, i bought mine for $34.99 (1gb).

Here's a list of games worth getting for the PSP:
Wipeout Pure (the best Wipeout game EVER)
Ridge Racer(RIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAAACERRRRRRR!)
Lumines
Daxter
GTA Liberty City Stories(if you happen to like GTA; I personally don't)
Syphon Filter (best SF one so far)
Megaman: Powered Up (make your own MM levels? HELL YES)
Megaman: Maverick Hunter X (remake of MMX1)
DJMAX Portable
Monster Hunter Freedom(you really need Wi-Fi to enjoy this, though)
LOCO ROCO (I finally played the demo; this is RIDICULOUSLY FUN)
Me & My Katamari (not as good as PS2 versions, but it's Katamari on the go!)
I left a few off the list, like those with console counterparts(X-Men Legends II, for example).

The new Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops looks to be a great new PSP game.
I heard Maverick Hunter X was like Mega Man X, but much different. Is this the case?

Image intensive sites will give you a memory error (Why can't it use my pro-duo to store images on temp? I have a damned two gig stick!) and the Flash player is a gimped version of MF5.0 (it may be 6 >.> correct me if i'm wrong please!) So streaming video and anything that requires a higher version of flash is a no-go. Than again, if i'm in range to an access point, I probably have my laptop with me :/ but thats just my oppinion.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | This is all true. ...But, you must admit that it's definitely a step up from not having Flash supported.
...Or not.
...And thanks, Sykosonik Goes Berzerk. I'll look further into this game. I loved Mega Man X and deeply regret ...let's say "not having it anymore."

Marketplace Rating: 5 | I love my PSPs to death (plural), but only one gets used. Which you ask? The one I left at firmware 1.50 (the other being updated to the newest firmware every time). I think the PSP has the potential to be an amazing handheld system, but its games are so bland right now. Homebrew stuff is such a blast, especially the emulators (... not that I download roms or anything, psh).
I don't know if eBay has any, but I suggest you specifically look up a PSP at 1.00 or 1.50 firmware. Most of the games that require higher firmwares (a popular one being GTA) have found their way onto 1.50 firmware PSPs through the hard work of homebrewers.
The PSP is still only about a year old so I don't plan on giving up on it yet; I'm sure a bunch of amazing games will come out soon enough (Metal Slug).
