Default Ridge Racer 7 for the Playstation 3

After version 6 became an exclusive for the XBOX 360, it's now the turn for version 7 to go stay with the PS3 as its exclusive partner.

I've played it on a demo PS3 60 GB unit (Asian version) at a local store for more than five times and I have to say, this is the best launch title for the PS3.

The experience was awesome. Unless you are used to Formula 1 games, then you would never had experienced reaching speeds of up to 400 KM/H and especially when you are in top gear (7th gear), that's where it all begins.

The graphics were superb (for a first-gen game on the PS3 platform) and the feel, gameplay, control, features (like nitro boost) were all amazing. Plus, there are lots modes to so you would never get bored (unlike in PGR 3 where I got instantly bored after playing the game for 30 mins. straight). Playing in Arcade modes and on the UFRA Special Events were an experience that really pushes one to the edge. Although the unit didn't have online play (the store didn't set an internet connection yet), offline play was already SUPERB in itself.

The feel is really awesome and what's more, the game supports ALL display resolutions supported in the PS3 spec. The monitor at the store only had 720p/1080i as its max. but even at that resolution, it already looks clean and stunning. Heck, I can't imaging how amazing this thing could get once hooked to a 1080p screen via HDMI port. Now that would rock worlds

The music selection was also good. I do admit though that I haven't tried all the other musical tracks since I was to addicted to listening to "Awakening" but the rest should be good.

Summary:
For me, it was the best launch title that the PS3 could ever get. It's easily worth the money. IMO, it's even more worth it than buying a copy of PGR 3 even if it sold for under USD$20 (under 1000 pesos).

This game really lives to its expectations.

I was really happy about the fact that RR7 is the pack-in game for the JP PS3. Anyway, above pretty much says it all; the music is pretty much all awesome though, that's all I have to add.

The music, the RR styled controls and the levels make the game totally worth buying. I've played and played and i'm all the way to the Extreme races and they're harder than life. Honestly, I stopped playing the game due to it's unbelievably hard AI at the end.

What I like about RR7 over RR6 is that the AI isn't a complete pushover. They actually try to race and do well instead of following the same line and then dropping back to 500000000 miles behind you.

I agree with all of you.

Everything was absolute awesome.

My only issue is when you hit a wall.
LOL a little damage at least? Come on.

If you want race damage, play Burnout.

I wanted "some" damage.

Not total car destruction damage. XD

Even "some" damage woulda made it a little better IMO

I can understand that. It would give those car worshippers more incentive to be careful on the track, lest they see their prized possessions get scuffled up a little.

It's good to know that people are enjoying this game really well.

Think this is a more worthy racing game than Project Gotham Racing 3 (which was an utter waste of time). Strangely, it has a slightly higher score than RR7 (on GS and IGN).

Oh well, PGR 3 sucked anyway IMO (got bored after playing 30 minutes of it on a demo 360 unit).

Project Gotham Racing 3 and Ridge Racer 7 shouldn't be compared to each other in my opinion. The PGR line of games (and it's predecessor, Metropolis City Racer) are more reliant on the Kudos system for single player gameplay. They also use real life locations with real life cars and have a more realistic approach to physics and gameplay.

The single player for PGR3 is deeper than Ridge Racer's continual win-this-race mantra. Playing PGR3 on Live is a whole lot more rewarding and fun than playing Ridge Racer 7 on the Playstation Network.

Ridge Racer is a great game for what it is; a over the top arcade style racing experience. This doesn't mean that PGR3 is automatically a bad game.

Did you get to the final races of RR6? You can run a perfect race, and you'd lose, because the game turns into "block the racers coming from behind, because they're using a triple boost to catch you, also they will be using another one in about five seconds ha ha ha." I have made three races of progress in the past nine months and plan to beat the game sometime in 2011. In RR7 do they race or do they bullshit?

Both racing and bullshit, more of the latter in the downloadable races. There's one where your opponents are literally using infinite nitrous and the only thing you can do is block them.

That reminds me of the bosses in Melty Blood that have infinite circuit. Otherwise, that sounds more like an extra mission or something.
