Default Rival Schools

Hmm, nobody has made a thread about Rival Schools yet. Let's make a good start and get this thread on a role (if possible).

I used to play Rival Schools : United by Fate on the Sony PlayStation and Rival Schools : Project Justice on the Sega DreamCast. Bad-ass game with lots of characters to choose from. Ranking from students to seniors, seniors to teacher.

Project Justice offers some interesting gameplay elements such as the triple-team-up attack (hilarious to watch)... The character designs and artwork for this game really stand out though.

This game has very little to do with Street Fighter, but still features similar gameplay it brings in the theme of students and teachers, from different high schools, beating the crap out of each other! Fun fun fun... The character roster includes many different high school stereotypes, such as Shoma, a baseball player; Edge, a punk; Hideo, a Japanese school teacher; Hayato, A gym coach and even more funky characters! The gameplay is 1 on 1, but a second character is selected to allow a tag team attack in which, if the move connects, the other character gets involved in a custom combo against he enemy. You can also switch your main character between rounds. The characters are filled with nice animation and have some cool taunts as well. This game is an instant Capcom classic!

Yeah, Project Justice was a great game. Old, but still fun to play on the DC. Too bad they didn't implent the Character Creation Mode/RPG on the EU/US version..

My fav. team I love to use are :
Momo - Roberto - Hinata

Let's keep it a good clean thread. Discuss!

wow, Project Justice. that's a game i haven't played in a couple years. i might have to pull it out to play and reminisce about today. the original Rival Schools i liked cuz it had the 2nd disc with the mini games and the story is a bit more fleshed out than street fighter. Project Justice blew my mind when i imported it back in the japanese dreamcast. the RPG mode was hella fun too. my team is Roberto, Batsu, and Kyosuke. don't ask why, it just was and Roberto's combos are killer in the air.

Correct me IF I'm wrong, but wasn't Sakura ORIGINALLY from Rival Schools? Also, I love playing United by Fate in an arcade... When I can find one again, that is. Favorite tag team=Hinata/Sakura. Does this say something about me?

No. Sakura appeared in SF Zero 2 first.

I whored United By Fate when I was in high school....I believe they still have the machine in the local arcade here. The PSone version is a lot better, with the anime endings and the nice Evolution disc. There was also a Rival Schools 2, where Nagare and that journalist girl first appeared, but basically it was a rehash of the first one.

Project Justice....oh yes....Kurow/Roy/Burning Batsu or Zaki/Kyouko/Kurow are my main teams.

L.H.L. Revival, that's something what I was pondering about for some time now...

Many people thinks Hinata represent Sakura from Street Fighter. To be clear of this, I kinda used wikipedia to set things clear :

Cameo in Rival Schools
Sakura Kasugano, representing Tamagawa-Minami High School, appeared in the first Rival Schools game. In the storyline, she, Hinata and Natsu are childhood friends. Also, Rival Schools makes many cameos in the manhwa, Seoul to Soul.

Info about Sakura Kasugano
Sakura first appeared in Street Fighter Alpha 2, where she had begun to participate in street fighting after watching Ryu win the first World Warrior tournament. She was searching for him and wished for him to train her to be a better fighter. She met up with many interesting people along the way, notably the Muay Thai master Sagat of all people and fought him, and eventually came across Ryu, who was still stressed over the Satsui no Hadou that had corrupted him -- he told her he couldn't train her as he still had much to learn himself. He sparred with her for a bit and as he began to leave, she took a picture of him to remember him by.

Rival Schools saw Sakura involved in the adventure between her school and various others in Aohura city. Fighting in it, she realized how much it meant to her to protect something she cared about
.

Phew, hope this sums up a few questions about Sakura. I also removed the Sakura thing from my first post. 'Nough Wikipedia stuff, let's continue where we left off

No, her first appeareance was in Street Fighter Zero 2. She's more like a guest-star in Rival Schools, because her role in the storyline is... next to NULL.

Oh, BTW *points @ nickname*

Currently trying to find Shinritsu! Justice Gakuen for PSOne (yeah the japanese version of Rival Schools), because it has shitloads of options and bonuses, all of them were removed from the american version for some retarded reason.

I still treasure my Moero! Justice Gakuen (JP version of Project Justice). Nekketsu Nikki is the best mini-game featured in a videogame EVER.

BTW, Miraikan (AKa Henvoke) released 2 match vids of M!JG. Interesting stuff, though the players tend to turtle a lot :/

LOL @ Momo connecting the Triple Team-up Attack during a combo.

Mine's still intact.

yes, they took out the Custom Character feature and replaced it with "generic" chars you unlock.

Gotta love the "bad" anime ending. Raizo's a chick magnet?

LMAO, I laughed pretty hard the first time I saw that. It's my favorite anime video.

... AWW, why didn't Capcom make a RS anime? It would have rocked! I think I'll have to conform with the RS comic from Udon... and yes, I know a lot of people thinks it sucks because Rey's drawing is [insert a lot of bla bla here].

Oh, and here are the match vids. Gotta hate that Kurow :3

First off, KK, your video links don't seem to work for whatever reason.

Second off, I used to play both of these a LOT back in the day, I haven't for a while, but apparently some friends of mine in Omaha are getting into Justice pretty hardcore, so I'll probably have to pick it back up, I've still got it for DC along with the stick. I used a combination of Momo, Ran, Burning Batsu, Natsu, Roy, Zaki, and Akira, with Momo and Roy probably being my best two. This game did kick a lot of ass though, and it sucks we never had a competitive scene for it here in KC, even though we had two cabs. But then again, we don't have much of a competitive scene for any fighters here except MvC2, which I despise.

At least you actually *have* cabinets for other fighting games. Minnesota gets Tekken, Soul Calibur, MvC2 and then we have one KoF: NeoWave cab and that actually might be gone now.

I always really liked Project Justice. No one around here would play it with me though so I sat alone with it ;_;

Sakura OWNZ in RS1 arcade version and in the initial PS RS1. she's able to hit opponents after her air combo HP finisher and extends it from there until both players are near the ground. essentially you hit them in the air with LK, LP (pause) LP, LK, HP then immediately LK again to hit them and repeat the combo. for some reason, her LK has enough reach to hit players that are plummeting fast after a HP finisher. They fix this in RS2 for the PS1 though.

RS doesn't seem to have real depth for a fighting game. the chain combo is a bit abusive and limited. I've seen countless of match with players keep using LK, LK for poking, zoning, set-ups, etc. and i rarely see them jump, throw a fireball or use any other moves to attack. and if the LK connects, BAM, a quarter or half of your lifebar gone thanks to the easy to input chain combos, and its the same damn old air combo everyone else is using.

the tagteam attack itself is almost as abusive since you become invulnerable to almost everything else, but its got 2 glaring weaknesses, another tag-team attack executed right after it or a throw move. never fails

i would strike RS as somewhat of a novelty fighting game, but i guess thats the appeal of the game after all. i honestly havent played much of the DC release/ project justice and i hope capcom did some tweaking in the fighting engine.

Oh, that "almost" infinite combo Sakura has in RS1? Simple solution: Be a LOT cheaper: use Hyo and play keep-away till tomorrow.

You missed one other thing: Countering is WAY too easy in RS. the first one to twitch an attack can easily be blocked then Tardy Countered. Turtling with your enemy becomes a main strategy, if you're really observant you can counter almost anything your enemy throws at you, even throws.

Tardy counter in RS1 was hella broken with characters like Hyo (his sword launcher ), Hayato or characters with long-range attacks :x

Moero! is completely different from Shinritsu! in a lot of aspects:

-Overall, the game rythm is slower.
-Throws have way more priority now, they can even stop Triple Team Up attacks.
-Air throws (I don't remember any air throw in Shinritsu).
-Un-techable attacks (only after certain setups).
-Burning Vigor bar only has 5 levels, compared to Shinritsu's 9 lv. bar. It fills way faster, though.
-Tardy counter's reaction window is slower. Yes, that means it isn't as abusable as before.
-Etc.
