Marketplace Rating: 0 | Rogue Galaxy I've waited weeks for someone to just mention this game on this site, but no go, so I'm finally making the thread, as the game comes out tomorrow/in 2 days (depending on if you get it on the shipping date [read: are a bastard]). http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=wmv&pl=game http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=wmv&pl=game http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=wmv&pl=game http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=wmv&pl=game http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=wmv&pl=game http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=wmv&pl=game
Here's the rundown.
-Space pirates
-Action RPG with gameplay similar to Dark Cloud 2, Star Ocean Till the End of Time, the Tales games, you get the idea.
-Will Friedle (Boy Meets World's Eric) voices Jastar, the main character
-Story labeled as a "space opera"
-Absolutely gorgeous graphics, with some of the best cinematics on the PS2
-Has received solid reviews from almost every gaming source ( http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/929240.asp)
-Main quest takes around 20-40 hours, with a large side-quest portion
-Virtually non-existent load times
-Has been out in Japan for a while (and was well-received there), but has had improvements made for the stateside version, including a whole new planet=
And the best part of all, which should make everyone far more excited for the game than they already are:
-The game was developed by Level 5, the same people that brought us Dark Cloud 2 and Dragon Quest VIII, two of the best RPGs of the generation and of all time.
There's almost no reason this game won't make my "best games ever" list, and I absolutely cannot wait.

I HATED KH but I loved what I played of the demo for Rogue Galaxy. It isn't nearly as spastic or easy. If I had to compare it to something, I'd say it's not unlike Phantasy Star Universe, but without the dodgy hit detection. And you have AI partners that do what you tell them.

That KH comparison seems pretty valid from what I've seen in the those videos. Mash buttons, use specials, etc...
(Finally, someone else who realizes the absolute shit that KH is.)

Though no discoveries, huh?
The bad thing is I hear the story is very, very bland, and typical. And graphics won't sell me anything. I also thought it was going to be a traditional RPG, not an action RPG, that turned me off when I heard it... And yes, there is absolutely no end to the battles.
EGM gave it something like a 7, that's not to bad though. I almost always trust EGM when it comes to reviews.

Marketplace Rating: 5 | I really can't trust EGM. I'd much rather trust my friends that have played the game, all of whom say the story is awesome. Yes the overall story is generic but it's how it's told that matters. EGM's been scoring RPGs poorly for quite a while. 7 for Shadow Hearts 3? Whatever.
Also, you really don't mash in RG's combat. Combos are timing based (unlike KH) and KH didn't actually have random battles. They were scripted to always appear in the same location, like in front of Merlin's house.
You guys can believe whatever but I plan on enjoying what will probably be one of my favorite PS2 RPGs tomorrow.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | I played this in Japan, it looked fun, and as it's basically the spiritual successor to Dark Cloud 2 I really don't see how you can go wrong.
But I'm not going to get it immediately since I still have so many RPGs to play through, like FF12. Even finding time for those at the moment is going to be a challenge.

or did you just mean it's cel-shaded because speaking frankly i don't give a shit about that

Marketplace Rating: 0 | My only complaints so far (minor nitpicking ahead):
-Can't use Burning Strikes on bosses.
-There's one point in the prison where it takes FOREVER to get to a save point, the difficulty picks up and there are two mimics. What the hell. It took me over an hour to get through there.
-When you reach a story point, and you enter that little "walking cutscene" thing, often my characters are walking in the completely wrong direction.
-I find myself talking to my party characters too much, because they always are near the chests when I'm trying to open them.
-Speaking of chests and characters, when you open a chest and a character is on it, they don't move up with the lid. WTF is that!?
As you can tell, the game has very few flaws in my mind. The biggest, which isn't necessarily one depending on your preference, is that the game is hard. Really hard, for an RPG at least. And it gets frustrating when you're a player that sparingly uses potions and the like to have to use 20+ on a battle and actually buy them.

'Use the ability to make your weapon use lightining, fire etc.." So far, its like devil may cry in an rpg, minus the cool acrobatic moves. X is slash, Square is pistols, Circle is jump. Run around hitting things till they die. Random battles... eh.
Art style is pretty good, and the voice acting is surprising not bad at all.
I haven't gotten that far into it, but the characters are a bit cliched, but the story is good.
Meh, Its pretty good overall, but nothing spectacular. I'd reccomend picking it up.

Marketplace Rating: 5 | The weapon fusing system and item creation systems are fantastic.
There's also more variation than what you've found Hio. Barrier-breaking, freezing guys, enemies weak to thrown objects, and a lot of stuff I probably haven't found yet. Yeah it's hack-and-slash, but it also plays extremely well so why dog it for being what it is?
I'm probably a bit over-powered where I am. I'm getting to level 44 to use my new awesome weapon and I'm maybe halfway through the game. I never seem to run out of money now too. I should probably try the Insectron tournaments but that might come later. The main story's good enough that I don't feel like trying to branch out for side stuff yet.
