Nethack, Angband, Castle of the Winds, Moria, Dungeon Crawl, so on and so forth. Any others here indulge themselves in this genre? Lately I've been playing Steamband, a cool (if not completely polished) Angband variant.

IVAN is a neat graphical dungeon hack that I've played off and on for about a year, mainly notable because of location-based damage. One of my favorite sequences involved being attacked by...a lion, maybe? It was something really large that should not have been where I was, at any rate. Things were desperate, so I pulled a wand and zapped the motherfucker. Unfortunately, the wand exploded. Fortunately, I survived. Unfortunately, the explosion blew off both of my character's legs. This left me slowly bleeding to death on top of a book. Reading it gave me access to a new god, so I prayed and got a lovely set of steel legs.

I'm pretty sure something ripped me to shreds a little deeper down, but whatever, that whole progression was sweet as hell.

Nethack for life, yo. I seriously was just going to make this thread.

I played Moria a bit in High School but didn't like how the dungeons stayed explored.

Been playing a few rounds lately, nothing really good until this game I started just before writing this, I have to save it for now. Lots of pets , disenchanters make short work of shopkeeps and the Oracle... unfortunately I think it found a trap and morphed into a newt, so I zapped it into a minotaur eventually. Much better. I've made my way down to the underground castle now but I have no horn or bugle. I've got to find someone I passed up to see if I left one behind or try to find Ludios.
