At first it was everything I dreamed it would be, and internally it was living up to all the hype it was getting.
By the 3rd set of levels, I was beginning to have my doubts.
By the 5th world it became clear that each level could be beat in one of three sure-fire ways, as every puzzle seemingly fits into the same categories:
1) move x object to y location
2) give some characters some items
3) prevent x from happening before y gets to z
4) kill everything
By the time I hit the 8th world, I was honestly quite bored with the game and felt like I was forcing myself along, just so I could say I'd finished it.
I really REALLY wanted to enjoy the game, but the repetition really wears me thin, and the controls make the experience all the more frustrating. They really need to add functionality that will freeze maxwell in place no matter where you tap on the screen. That and the camera snap-back needs to happen manually, not automatically. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to connect two objects together, only to have the camera suddenly try panning away as you're grasping for an object, therefore sending Maxwell (usually) to his death because you missed the object and tapped a point in space instead.
I really hope they make a sequel and fix all the usability issues, because I want to love this game so much, but can't bring myself to do it anymore. |
