Speaking to RPGLand, Disgaea 2 producer Souhei Niikawa confirmed that he intends on making a third game, regardless of how well the second game sells. "Well sales number always helps for sequels," he says, "but we have no intent on ending this series just yet, so you can count on part 3."
Niikawa also discusses total gameplay time (up to 200 hours) and possible reaction to the two main characters of the first Disgaea, Laharl and Etna, having smaller roles. Disgaea was a hilarious strategy game in the vein of Tactics Ogre that has you play as demon prince Laharl as he tries to gain control of the underworld.
Disgaea 2 will arive on US shores August 29th.

This is exciting news. I never even finished the first one, let alone tapped into the extra content. I'm not huge on the heavy focus on grinding, but the characters and gameplay were fantastic.
Makai Kingdom was a fantastic game too, Once I can find a cheap copy I plan to actually finish that one.

Will NIS America be doing preorders with bonuses over their website for Disgaea 2?

I've honestly gotten pretty bored with the way NIS games work. Yeah yeah nice sense of humor and all that but in any game where I like the main character (Makai with Zetta, Disgaea with Laharl), the character becomes too nice. I think I actually ended up liking La Pucelle the most out of them, which is really odd. Then again, it had Cam Clark voice acting for a cat pirate so perhaps that is why...

Right now I'd tie it with La Pucelle (I'm only on chapter 3 of LP though) My strikes against Makai are that the bosses were too easy, compared to those in Disgaea (Yoshitsuna doesn't come close to Prinny Baal, although one good thing about Makai's is that there are more bosses) and the highest-level equipment is too hard to acquire (legendary Cosmic Blade is a cinch compared to what it takes to get a crown Genesis...when I finished, I still only had a 3-star Genesis) Other than that, I thought Makai was fine.
Agreed with the poster who wanted to keep the PS2. I was gonna sell mine after completing Disgaea 2. Now, I'm not so sure...unless they throw this one on PS3.
