Only reliable modification to the 360 right now only makes it so that the xbox 360 will play backups.

Your LIVE account won't be banned, but any connection with the modded console is banned.

Actually, all games for the PS3 are region free, but backward compatibility (PS1/PS2) are region locked. Blu-ray Disc and DVD region codes are also enforced.

Pretty much what he said.

Although as I mentioned earlier, some Xbox360 games are already region free.

Granted, this is way less than the no. of region-free PS3 game titles.........but at least you have something.

The number of region-free titles for X360 are increasing though with newer games.

Granted, it's the Asian versions of the games that are region-free.

Games like Too Human, GOW 1 & Top Spin 3 Asian Version are already region-free.

You can check them out here:

The only way for Live to really know that you have a modded system, is if you allow yourself to get caught.

There really is no way to tell short of Live auto downloading then scraping back some scrap of data from your system during a firmware update.

Or you made a shitty disc and it error'd too many times. Or there was a bad filename in the .iso or whatever.

I don't like that at all, really. Especially since I am legally allowed to make backups of my games once I have bought them.

I thought that every time you connected to Live, your system boot data was transmitted to them or something like that, and they checked for discrepancies in the data.

I'd think a modded system would have a different boot order, or totally different files booted up, or some not booted at all.

What happens when you start a back up for the 360 is before you play the disc gets run through a number of security checks.

1. Check validity of the data and to make sure the copy is legit.

2. Make sure the copy has the proper formatting in the disc and doesn't have bad sections, or discrepencies between the legit and the copy.

3. Has the proper filename.

That's essentially it. However I am pretty sure that there are other checks that run before you actually even play a game.

Edit: If any of those checks fail enough times that data gets sent to Live and you get banned for piracy. There are ways to get your banned account back and the banned system back on live but it's not free and takes way more technical knowledge than I have.

Something about kernels and shit.

Other checks the system does is that it checks the serials of the DVD drive and your hard drive. If those don't match the ones held by the system (the storage location of said keys haven't been found yet in the xbox360 hardware), you can say goodbye to using Live on that console.

easy solution - back up the eeprom on the 360 drive, then flash it applying that key. If you use legit imports you won't get banned from live

Oh I see I see.

So there does seem to be a workaround.

It does appear to require a bit of work, but it looks like your solution can get it done.

(Though I was surprised that I haven't seen or heard such things from the techgeeks over there at Beyond3D.com forums......but that's not the point).

Anyways, thanks for the tidbit you gave us
