Default Your fighting game scene

So basically in this thread we see what everyone's fighting game scene consists (or doesn't consist of) in their city.

Basically our scene, as far as the arcade goes, is non-existant. We have a T5DR machine, a T5 machine, a busted MvC2 cab, a KI2 cab, KoF2k1 I think in an MVS, a SC3 arcade edition, and that's pretty much it. The only ones of those that people actually play are T5DR and MvC2, when it's not broken. What's your scene like?

Fighting game scene? What's that? =P

Seriously, we've had tournaments in Springfield before, but none in awhile. We had one Tekken 5 tourney that I couldn't play in because it fell on the same day as a DDR tourney. There used to be Tekken 4 tourneys at a Game Exchange before that, but then the machine got yanked after three or four of 'em. Lessee...there was a tournament for SC2 once, and the Aladdin's Castle had a few for Soul Edge, MKII, and Slam Masters (the national tournament)

I wish there was more going on. Even though I don't know much about T5, I might try and do my own tourney, just to have something.

One arcade in the north side of the Twin Cities in Maplewood with a T5DR, sit-down MvC2 and a Soul Calibur 2 and one arcade in the south side of the Twin Cities in Burnsville with a T5DR, regular MvC2, a Soul Calibur 2, SC3 that'll go away in a few days or so and a KoF:NeoWave if it isn't gone already.

Only T5DR and MvC2 get played. No interest is shown in other fighters at all.

The arcade manager in the Maplewood arcade (where I worked for a while) is such a pansy that he'd host AND play in the Tekken tournaments and if he lost in the first round, he'd throw a fit and walk off yelling, "TOURNAMENT'S OVER."

We had an SvC at a bowling alley near me for a little while but that was here for all of a month. I didn't even want to play it very much.

Scene? What scene? Nobody likes fighting games!

Not in this town.

But there's a bunch of fighting games over at this university that's in town. I haven't heard about ANY tournaments in like my whole county. Apparently, people go out and get lives where I live.

I've never even heard of a fighting game tourney in my area, and I've never seen a recent fighting game machine. There's a place about half an hour away with a GGXX, but it's been broken much of the time.

Here, the situation is different.

KOF wise, you can still find a lot of good players (lol Mexico). Unfortunately, you also find WAY MORE trash players, little fuckers that only play KOF2k2 bootlegs, with retarded shit like infinite bars, Rugal and a lot of glitches.

In fact, when KOF XI arrived, only the really hardcore and old-school players touched it, and they still do. The trash players can't even see it, because "lol where's my rugal and my retarded-ass infinite combos?".

There are also a lot of MvC2 players... but I don't give 2 shits about that machine, so I'm not gonna comment anything else.

And... well, the rest of the fighting games are totally ignored.

-There's a SF3 Third Strike, but people here is a bunch of scrubs that can't understand how deep and wonderful the game is, they only choose Ken or Chunli, and they get pissed if you parry their shit. They're too predictable.

-Tekken and Soul Calibur are ignored completely.

-I think I don't need to comment about the other games.

Here there isn't that much of a fighting game scene (people are more focused on driving games like Wangan Midnight:Maximum Tune 2 and Initial-D), but there are small tourneys for T5DR and MvC2.

Last big tourney I knew was a Tekken Tag one, two years ago, I think.

I play a lot of Soul Calibur 3 in the arcade, but I haven't found anyone to play against yet

My local fighting scene is huge in some parts and small in others. We have a lot of TILTs in STL.

One TILT has like 5 Street Fighter Alpha 3's, The whole versis series (Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, Xmen vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, Marvel vs Capcom 2), Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2, KOFXI, and Mortal Kombat 4, Tekken 5: DR, Guilty Gear XX, Dead or Alive 2, and Soul Calabar 2. I haven't been there in a while so I don't know if thats up to date.

Another Tilt has like the whole versis series again but without Children of the atom or Marvel super heroesm. They've got KOFXI, SNK vs Capcom Chaos, Guilty Gear XX, Soul Calabar 2, Tekken 4, Tekken 5, and Tekken Tag Tournament. A lot of people play any of the fighting games here (But SNK vs Capcom is rarely touches).

Another tilt has a lot of the same stuff excluding some newer stuff. They however have a JoJo's Venture. However the screens broken. I don't see a lot of people here, let alone people playing fighting games here.

Another arcade thats not a tilt has more current stuff (Mostly Shooting and Racing games) has a Tekken 5. The Tekken 5 is played a lot.

So yeah, there is a huge comunity here for fighting games of any kind.

The screen wills spin and battle music will start to play. You and drunk friends will be forced to stand in a line rocking back and forth holding over sized swords. A group of retarded looking monsters will appear and you will take turns hitting each other. When it is all over you will get 648 Gil and a fire ring. Why the 12 foot tall monster with no hands had a fire ring that fits everyone from you to your grandma will still be mystery to man.

Yeah, the STL scene is fucking awesome. I've been over there a few times for Tekken, at the Tilt at NWP, and holy shit they have everything there. I'm so jealous of you it's not even funny.

Mine was going strong for a while, then about a year ago too many people had beefs with one another and that just made it dwindle down to almost nothing. Sure you may find the occasional group that gets down in some Street Fighter, or my friends may want to get together to play some Virtua Fighter, but as far as tourneys go, they are few and far in between now.

I play Tekken 5: DR every now and then. Sometimes in my arcade, there is a big scene to play.

I also play SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos at times. I'm not totally sure the extent of the fighting scene, but I do think it is big in certain areas of Houston.

While we do have some pretty spectacular players here, it kinda sucks because a good amount will bitch that no arcades have the latest fighters, and when they get them, the players will play for a few weeks, then stay home and play the home versions.

And with no competition in the arcades, who's going to care?

From what I hear the Tekken scene in the DFW area is one of the best in Texas. That must explain why I get my ass handed to me everytime I try to play.

I don't keep up with much of the other stuff, I heard we had a few good 2d fighters around (GGXX, CvS2) but I never see them.
